Forums - Sony Discussion - Zipper: 256 Perfect Number For 'Epic Battle' Feel.

Zipper Interactive have revealed the reason they chose 256 as the number of online gamers able to play MAG in one match. In an interview with German site Play3.de, a Zipper Interactive developer said (not the best translation by Google);

"We have chosen deliberately so for 256 players. Not because we are a technical limit prescribing. Certainly we would be able to tickle a few more pieces from the hardware, but 256 players are perfect to give you the feeling of an epic battle. With a higher number of players would lose the individual and may no longer be seen as part of a team."

It was last month we found out that the game could support more than 256 players. But it seems the reasoning is for a more realistic feel to battle (from a game based in 2025).

The game is out exclusively for PlayStation 3 on January 26 in the US, and January 27 in Europe. You can try out the public beta of the game by downloading it off the PlayStation Store (make sure you have enough room on your hard drive).

To fall under "epic battle feel", you need to have more than numbers.

Have you ever played domianation in MAG it's a War zone.

No, actually; it's a perfect number for a "Look at me I stored this number in a char!" feel. Granted, you'd have to write some code to make zero equal 256, but seeing as a zero-player game would make no sense anyway this is doable.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

it has much more than that...

 I am more hyped for this game than any other....which is saying a lot for this jam packed year...

I dont get it.  make some sense.

I'm spoiled by the LOTR movies. 10,000 simultaneous players for the epic feeling or nothing :P

well i can get the WarZone feel just playing killzone 2...damn, it's the most chaotic game i've ever played, and it's AWESOME.
i've played MAG too and it's pretty much what he says.

I'm Back! - Proud owner of the best doomed handheld of all time!

I wish I could have played domination in MAG
