Jasper is the launch model of 360 after some extensive public beta testing for three years.  I am glad I was able to exchange my Falcon Pro for that SKU before I ever took it out of the box.

My Falcon hasn't had any problems. Thank God. *knocks on wood* Luckily I was a late adopter because the early models are very unreliable. An acquaintance of mine with a 2006 360 got red ringed three times. This time it wasn't under warranty. He had enough and traded in all his 360 games, traded in MW2 360, got a PS3 slim, bought MW2 PS3. Had I known he got red ringed, I would have told him to just get a $200 Jasper Arcade (Jasper chipset runs cool) and slot in his HDD. I told him about the Jasper after the fact but he insists that investing another $200 on the 360 was too risky (even though there is no data to suggest that the Jasper is statistically unreliable. On the contrary, there was survey data showing a failure rate of under 4%). Ah well, his choice. I get that Microsoft doesn't deserve a pass for designing a shitty console build during the early stages but Microsoft has taken the steps to correct this error. Sony has went through the same sort of growing pains. PS2's infamous disk-read problems, faulty Sony laptop batteries catching on fire (!! I believe this was a problem with Dell and some other laptop manufacturers as well).

Honestly, as a way to promote good will among the userbase and to make up for screwing up, Microsoft should extend the RRoD and e74 warranties until the end of the generation. Sony didn't extend the PS2 and PS3 warranties (despite the hardware issues) but Sony didn't receive the same degree of backlash and reputation damage. Microsoft got a lot of bad PR due to RRoD and it's still eating into potential hardware sales (to this day, the "don't buy the 360, it'll RRoD" mantra is being spread all the time. Even though it's common sense that the new cooler-running chipsets are going to lead to less heat, which leads to less RRoDs.)

I remember feeling. My launch elite died in February of last year. It outlasted all my friends and they picked on me horribly. I wouldn't have minded the teasing but I had no way to make it RROD. Now my friends like me again and I feel rejuvenated. I hope you hold on to that feeling for as long as possible.

That's what I don't get.. When I decided to buy a 360 my friend got a PS3 at the same time and he was teased me saying that mine was going to break! And guess what? His PS3 has broken twice! (we both got our consoles in January last year) There is always the 'oh when they get the RROD they'll get a PS3' so does the mean that I'll just forget that I've bought nearly 30 games if I get one? and I've never seen the phrase 'when their PS3 gets a YLOD they'll get a 360' Even when it wasn't my main console (Gamecube was for me) I had two PS2s break but did I just get an Xbox? No! My latest PS2 Slim which I got for £25 works fine with all the Final Fantasy titles at least but Guitar Hero and GT4 I have to fight the thing to get them to work (tbf I think there is a problem with GT4's disc)

But still the average consumer who doesn't frequent gaming sites like we do and know all about the issues for the hardware etc. is less informed than some of us might think, I saw one person in a Game store who said he wanted a 360 because 'he heard that some PS3s had to be recalled' as a 360 fan I just shut my mouth lol.

Btw for the record I've had E68 a couple of times (taken the hard drive off and put it back on) and my AV cable had some problems but has been fine mostly and I've had my 360 for just over a year. Meanwhile I've had every Nintendo console ever and experienced no problems :D

Yeah, I get all excited when my 360 RRODs. It means I get to go trade it in and in 45 minutes have a brand new 360 sitting in my entertainment center. I always get the extended warranty, so I'm able to just go into the store and trade it for another off their shelf.

I'm mad at my cuurent 360 though. Last time I traded one in they only had Halo 3 special edition consoles, and it's ugly. But, of course, the ugly one lasted, and my extended warranty has now expired. ::grump, grump::
