Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The IGN hate is really annoying

Rath said:
Actually I'm pretty sure the IGN hate isn't due to reviews at all. Well some of it is, but no more than the usual amount of hate for any reviewer.

Most of its from their editorials due to a few very vicious ones towards Ninty in the recent past.

Stop trying to get this thread back on-topic.

You're right though. Dedicating an entire podcast to trolling your audience didn't help much either though.

Every big site is hated for something. Even VGChartz! =P

VGChartz? I don't think I've ever read a negative thing about VGChartz. Certainly nothing like that would appear on other gaming sites such as Neogaf. :p

The only negative i have seen posted about VGChartz was by Sven on the Capcom Unity Blog. Matter of fact it was how I came across VGChartz in the first place. Needless to say, I haven't been back onto the Capcom Unity Blogs. Now On-Topic, I think IGN is an average website. They do good things they do bad things. I also think the IGN hate is pretty funny considering 1)IGN journalists seem to consider themselves among the most important video-game journalists in the industry and 2) They remind me of FOX News (FIXED News)(my most watched news channel) in how they present their opinions. I Think Daemon Hatfield is Bill O' Reilly, and if nothing else I find that man entertaining (even though I want to smack the guy across the face).

Well ever since the "big games" stopped releasing sometime in late November, it has seemed that IGN has been about finding material to keep the site going. Unfortunately that material resulted in poorly thought out and poorly executed editorials. Hey like any silly forum post of someone's outrageous opinion, they were great for getting hits and comments, but it really does hurt their credibility. And their new site setup actually features these that are getting most hits and comments to perpetuate it.

Point is, IGN sold out for the sake of getting attention and well money, instead of keeping up professional integrity... at least when it came to the views and opinions of its editors. And this isn't just Nintendo hate they've been spreading, I've read a few of their other editorials which are just awful when talking about other systems and games.

Personally, like Darth stated, I do still like their reviews as I do think they put effort and time into having a solid review, sometimes they do let their emotions run way to much into factoring the score. I mean it's hard to take the human condition out of those things, but there is no reason you can't stop them from running wild. I remember listening to Mark Bozon's video review of No More Heroes 2. Sure he gave it a great score and seem quite psyched about it, but in the entire video review he kept making the distinction of this is what the core wants or this is hardcore gaming or this is what hardcore gamers due. And I'm thinking, why are you trying to polarize it so much. Even worse you are polarizing the hardcore themselves. Some hardcore gamers (especially old-school) don't think games like No More Heroes are your "hardcore" games as usually violence isn't an automatic ticket to that prize.

I mean maybe these undertones just happen out of the human condition, but for the sake of professionalism there is no need for them. I still look at IGN for all my reviews of all my games (except for EDGE and Gamecritics who I respect for their professional integrity over pleasing a bunch of whiny fans and corporate giants), but I really do wish IGN would just stick to what their best at... hyping, distribution of news, previewing, and then reviewing. I would of course love to read editorials of the opinions of the team, but not if it sacrifices integrity at the same time.

Of course there are a lot of people (namely Wii fans) that just bash them and others just because they don't agree with them, but of course that comes with any console's hardcore fans (have you seem some of the outrage with just anyone talking somewhat about FF13 haha). So I just try to overlook that and get down to the more logistics of it than just petty whims of the most loyal.

As for this thread, seems like a lot of people have their panties in a wad. Shouldn't take the internet seriously, but some need to learn YOU ARE TALKING TO REAL HUMAN BEINGS. No matter how much you may think you don't like them or don't respect their opinions, remember these are people, not just names over a small picture. Down where I'm from, there's a thing called southern hospitality where no matter who the person is, you treat them with respect and decency even if they are unknown to you because it's just the right manner to treat a stranger (unless of course they do something that takes that right away). Maybe more should work on that.

Maybe if the IGN team were not total wank bags people would love them more.

Also the website design is total shit, that doesnt help.

IGN sucks.

if they stop implying that wii fans have bad taste in games... then the hate would probably calm down...

Why isn't IGN allowed to be criticised in a public forum?

Especially if it can be criticised in such entertaining and well-considered ways.

lol if ign hate is annoying then this thread just turned really annoying
