Nintendo is always doomed, even when breaking sales records, and the Wii HD is always right around the corner.

Either way, he'll probably be back in 7 months or so... and probably be the better for it.
He'll be without some of his signature bits... but I think he will feel less reigned in by tradition.

Considering how successful the DS / Wii ended up being, I don't see how they could have possibly not learned anything from this gen.
If they come out with a Wii HD (or Super Wii), it would mean they couldn't come up with anything new (in time). It's a possibility that may happen, but I'm sure it's one they want to avoid.
I give it until 2012's E3. Maybe 2011. That's when they will reveal the successor to the Wii, which will not be called a Wii (esp if it has different controllers), so people cannot pretend it is just "Wii HD."
