I still disagree.

You can actually combo in Tales, but Star Ocean 4 has a very deep system. The blindsides and such make the game differ greatly from Tales. (keep in mind I've only played 1, 2, and 4.)

Outlaw you arguing petty stuff... SO and Tales are called the "cousin series" for a reason everything about them is nearly the same at core( theres even a small joke about it in SO3)... Now of course there gonna have differences. You see my point to Riot is if you like Tales series you will like Star Ocean, but you and your petty selfish anti SO4 agenda is doing anything to turn ppl away because your artificial and over critical( which youve admitted too and shown it several timew) behind has issues with Va's..thats it?( guess you dont play Anime games?)

@Outlaw- you skipped the best star ocean of the 4?

i must admit it looks good, but i have heard all kinds of things about the story is it true??

have you ever played any SO in the series, or any Anime JRPG's in general?

yes SO1(psp remake), and SO3(also known as SO:Till The End Of Time), if it is up to SO3 standards i will buy it, simple as that.

I disagree. The skills in Star Ocean are far too limiting and there are far too few to even compare to artes. Star Ocean may have free run, but the battles don't actually require you to move the stick at all, as pressing attack moves your character automatically. The chains you can do in SO4 aren't even comparable to the things you can do in Vesperia.

No, Star Ocean has better and more varied special attacks. Tales is mostly combo oriented with maybe a buffer here or there and a lot of artes lose their luster the second you learn the next. There's no reason to go back and use the others unless you want to unlock a stronger version or you just need to fill out your shortcuts for potential combos. Something like Cerberus Strike in ToV becomes irrelevant very quickly. Compare that to Headsplitter from SO2which could be used for major damage, as a evasive manuever or even to cross large distances in a short amount of time.

And the comment about not moving the characters is a bold faced lie. If you don't move them you're not playing correctly. Characters have different movesets depending on their distance from the enemy. Mashing attack locks you out of that. You have to keep range in mind at all times because some attacks are more apporpriate than others.

And yes, the chains you can do are amazing. I was fucking up the Lord of the Dragons in the colisseum with Reimi because she's a beast and her special arts lead to some insane combos.

Story-wise SO3 was faaar better by a large margin.

Gameplay-wise yes, it does go to SO4, its fast, hectic, and chaotic in later on in the game, very fast paced it almost feels like an action rpg at times.

Controls smooth, very smooth nothing much to say here.

blidesides and chained super combos make for an amazing gameplay addition to the series, it feels like Valkyrie profiles divine assasult mode.

Voice-acting wise no, no, no, no, no, no, nooooooo... thankfully though for the PS3 there are more languages to chose from, ... though i'll still use english dub because its the only language i understand 100% anyway.

Music everything you'd except from a tri-ace game, though it does seem less... badass then SO2 and SO3. The ending battle theme though is UNREAL, talkin sephiroth musical backround.

lasting appeal it was a long game on the 360 version, it should be longer in the ps3 version due to more quests and what not.

...

Basiclly it does alot right, but it does some things wrong that till the end of time did right, and as it stands of right now, i dont think they made an online or offline VS mode like what they did with SO3. (i know till the end of time didn't have an online VS but i mean if this one did it would be both online and off... to bad... )

Wow, you are the first person I've ever heard that liked Star Ocean 3. I'm surprised.

The voice acting is bad, but not even close to the worst I've heard. The voice acting is far from the biggest issues I had with the game.
