Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Epic: Pachter's comments are FALSE! We are happy with Microsoft!

Oh oh oh, i'm sorry to say this, but A LOT of you guys are so unbelievably uninformed and/or naïve. Like in this particular case, he just said that he "thinks" that Epic regrets the exclusivity deal because Gears of War became way more popular than Epic probably thought. It's clear that the game would have sold a few million copies more if it also was on PS3, so Pachters logic soinds like common sense. So, let's say that Pachter is indeed right, than do you guys really think that Epic would say: "Pachter is actually right. We wish we never signed an exclusive deal with Microsoft cause we would have made a lot more money when the franchise would have been a multiplatform franchise".

Another thing. A lot of you guys often misinterprit Pachters' statements, or read his statements on a website where the author often misinterprits statements. It's just a tip, but the next time you judge Pachter and his statements, than at least read/watch the source material, like in this case the bonus round, and put his statements in perspective. And don't forget, he's an anylist, who's job it is to make educated guesses based on information that you and i probably don't know about. And yes, analysts can also be wrong, but that's what you get when you always have to predicts thibgs that did not happen yet.

But hey, why am i even trying to defend him? It's not like you guys will stop being uninformed or naïve, cause why would you? It takes too much trouble to figure out what really happened. And to be honest, i don't even blame you. Anyway, of course i'm not talking about all you guys, just about the ones who lack common sense.

Gears of War was a new IP, so Microsoft helped a lot. As I said before, it's better to sell 6M on the x360 using Microsoft's strong marketing than sell 2M on each console because of "bad" marketing (not exactly bad) just like the rest of the new multiplatform IPs.

It's funny how you guys ignore that this game probably wouldn't sell 6M without Microsoft's effort, then you use the current x360 sales + possible PS3 sales.

Epic statement!

Why would they take a game engine designed around the strengths of the Xbox 360 and try to shoe-horn it into the PS3? It would probably take a great deal of effort to make a game which was designed with the Xbox 360 in mind and then tuned even more so with the second iteration work on the PS3?

They are a private company and they do whatever they feel like doing, much like Valve in this case. If they only want to make exclusives they have no share-holders to please but themselves!

I'm aware of that, but Gears of War was THAT groundbreaking at the time, it would have got the attention of millions of gamers anyway. Specially cause there wasn't much else at the time. Besides, I don't think it got all these sales because of Microsoft' marketing muscle, but rather because of word of mouth because the game is THAT good and THAT popular.

I would agree with your logic if the game was designed as a single new game, but it's a franchise of at least 3 games. The possibly lower sales of Gears 1 because of possibly worse marketing, would probably have been compensated with the sales of Gears 2 and 3 because of word of mouth. But in the end it's a "what if" situation and we'll never know what would have happened.

why do people even quote him? internet trafic?

Heavy Rain is the most unique game that I saw in this entire generation, if this factor can really make a game sell, Heavy Rain should sell 10 millions first week. The problem is that this factor alone won't advertise your game and make a good marketing.

And high sales of Gears 1 (on a single platform) would be added with high sales of Gears 2 and 3. Using your point that's what we can have:

2 platforms:

Gears 1- Lower sales

Gears 2- High sales

Gears 3- High sales

One platform:

Gears 1- High sales

Gears 2- High sales

Gears 3- High sales

Which one is better?

Without a good marketing the potential wouldn't be showed, so a high potential would be useless (in order to make the game sell 6M).

Gears of War 1 and possibly 2 benefited by being xbox360 exclusive since microsoft spent a lot more time and money marketing them than they would of if it was on both consoles.
Now the IP is established and the PS3 user base is a lot higher, Gears 3 sales would be higher if it was on both consoles.
So Prachter is right, yes epic would love to sell to Gears3 on both XBox360 and PS3.
But hindsight is 20/20

would MW2 of sold better if it was xbox360 exclusive?

Of course not! Its sold 6plus million on the PS3, the XBox360 would of gotten a few sales more, perhaps a million but not 6 million more

All bow to me the VGChartz current reigning 3DS prediction champion

Bet with tbone51: Pokeon X & pokemon Y will not sell more than 8 million in 2013

July 2009 daveJ saidTrue the wii has a large lead now but by 2017 the most likely result will be 1. ps3 2. xbox360 3. wii <-- wii's successor launched in 2011 effectively killing sales of the wii

2009 daveJ said: The wii will not break the 50% marketshare barrier it will go below the 40% marketshare barrier though in the future. VGChartz members: Impossible, youre an idiot that knows nothing about sales

Like surprise. They got lots of marketing, probably some of their best sales ever and oddles of money. They're still independent and can put other titles wherever they want and they are now a very well known developer on consoles.

What's to regret?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Modern Warfare isn't a completely new IP, it's a known multiplatform franchise with a different name. No comparison can be made

Sure, Gears of War was a revelation in 2006. But a large part of its success came from releasing early on the Xbox 360. If Epic had to develop it on the PS3 it would have released in 2007 around the same time as Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4. It would have sold less on 2 systems with greater development effort than on the one system because timing is very important with consoles and being early with great products is the best way forward for establishing a new I.P.

WOW, you girls are actually sticking up for pachter. Give me a break, if he came out and said that killzone producer or resistence or whatever was unhappy you would be running your mouth.

It's so funny how you think gears did not make out good , remember it is way cheaper to produce on 360 and epic tackled this COMMENT pretty quick

IT'S simple the guy is a idiot.

LETS JUST COME TOGETHER AS GAMERS AND REALIZE HE JUST TALKS A LOT BULL SH-T
