Forums - Microsoft Discussion - SPOILERS! First 30 mins of Mass Effect 2 SPOILERS!

This nonsense is still going on. I can't wait until ME2 is released. I'll be enjoying the game while the semantics about what IGN meant by "miles ahead of the competition" are still being debated.

I think it's pretty obvious that the reviewer meant other RPG's as ME2's competition. In which case I would have to agree. Proper working unbiased eyes could tell you that Uncharted 2, graphically is the superior game. That being said, the art direction in ME2 is much more incredible, unique, and expansive then that of Uncharted 2 which is also evident by the higher presentation score it recieved. I never understood how Mass Effect got such incredibly high scores, including many perfect scores when it suffered from so many problems and a frame rate that rendered it almost unplayable at times. I fully back these review scores and agree that it should be a GOTY nominee. This isn't anything more then I would have guessed a selnor thread would make a turn though.

And how is it obvious? You are aware of what happens when you assume. And please do not refer to me as being biased, you are way of base.

Obvious in that ME2 is an RPG and it's direct competition are obviously RPGs. Along with the fact that Uncharted 2 got a 10 for graphics and this got a 9.5. Makes pretty much sense to me. Anything else is nothing more then an assumption in and of itself. Really though, the dead give away is the fact that I have eyes and when I use such eyes to look at the games Uncharted 2 is the better looking game. Not to say that ME2 isn't better in some regards, as it absolutely is. But overall Uncharted 2 is still the best looking game out at this time. On consoles for sure anyway. I'd like to point out that he was playing the PC version which is obviously better in many categories. Here is an exceprt from the written review "If you're playing on PC and have a powerful rig (I took Shepard for a spin on an Alienware Intel Core 2 Quad 2.00 GHz prcoessor, dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M cards, and 6 GB of memory), it will look even better." Why this even matters is beyond me. Why a game always has to be the best this or the best that is beyond me. All of you guys need to just play your games and enjoy them and stop making everything a pissing contest. It doens't matter that Uncharted 2 looks better or that ME2 got .1 higher. It really doesn't and I'm not going to argue about it. Instead I'm going to leave this thread forget about how childish the gaming community is and enjoy some of the best games of this generation. I suggest everyone else put away the rulers and do the same. Have fun! :)

Why so emotional? As you put it yourself, why does it matter? I could careless personally if the general opinions regarding U2 being the benchmark for console game graphics did not change in a 1,000 years. IGN gave Gears of War a ten in the graphics department, so by your logic I should assume it has achieved graphical parity with U2. Futhermore, IGN never qualified its review by stating "amongst rpgs, ME2 is miles ahead of its direct competitors!" Be careful in dealing in absolutes and passing opinion off as fact. You have every right to feel U2 is the Holy Grail of gaming. My comments were not saying one was better than the other, but only to highlight visual competition, in regards to graphics, is not a for gone conclusion. Lastly, I did not enter this thread to argue but if something is logically debatable, I'm all for it. Never shy away from resistance because adversity is the key to strength!

Like I said. Have fun with that. :)

I guess for every sensible person you have the pleasure to make their acquintance, you meet a member of the herd.

Oh, I'm sorry was that the part where I was suposed to say how wrong you are? I'd rather brush it off and move on. You say my opinion on the matter is false and an assumption but then only assume what the author of the article meant yourself. I never mentioned you or replied to you, and in fact I wouldn't have even noticed you were here if you hadn't replied to me as If I had attacked you in some way. You can believe your right all you want. You have no proof to justify your opinion as I no proof to the contrary. You can only state your opininion and I the same. I'm not going to try and convince you otherwise because, honestly I don't care what your opinion is, and why should I? Your no one to me and I have other games to play then this one with you. I apologize for not playing ball but even as bored as I am I've better things to do then assert some kind of superiority over you and your opinion.

A ship comes out of hyper drive into a solar system, we see it, it looks cool, then is fired upon by a alien ship. The guy says 'that's impossible, we're in stealth mode'. (Huh?) The ship is put into evasive maneuvers, which was simply rocking back and forth in the line of fire (Huh?), and is sliced by a laser weapon. The captain wants to stay behind and save the ship (Huh?) You end up dead, floating in space, and you are 'repaired' at some space facility which is then attacked (Huh?) While escaping, you point and shoot at some robots that have the AI of a slug (Huh?) , that for some reason are trying to kill you (Huh?) You have a buddy with super powers who can kill said robots with some kind of thought power, but he won't use it unless you tell him to (Huh?). You open some doors by playing a juvenile simple 'repair the circuit board by jumpering some wires' mini game (Huh?). I was thinking about buying this for PC because of the hype, but after watching the first 30 minutes, I wasn't impressed. The graphics were great, the characters were boring and lifeless, including your own character. Must not be my kind of game, i'll put it on the buy at discount list.

Because we both know that would be virtually impossible. But putting all nonsense aside. I'm new to this posting business and I was under the impression you were referring to my comment. I guess I took it too far and got a little personal with in the end. My bad! A misunderstanding on my behalf. And, by the way, I never assumed what the author meant. Just pointed out some facts which were agreed upon in your own comments. My apologies, kid.

Problem is how is 9.5 graphics(ME2) over 10/10 in graphics(U2) "miles ahead of competition"? like CGI and other said IGN wasn't talking about Uncharted 2 or KZ2 as the "competition".

I mean, they could have been. I just know that with their history, they have no qualms about saying: 'best looking game on console', if that's in fact how they felt. They did it with the original Gears of War/Gears of War 2/Killzone 2/& Uncharted 2. That's why I'm think they meant miles ahead of any other game in the genre.

Honestly though, we'll never know. I'm just going to give Mass Effect 2 it's due credit: yes, it looks fantastic, definitely one of the better looking games this gen so far. However, I still would give, given what I've seen of it, Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 higher ranks for graphics. Just my opinion though.

The problem is, they would have said on the 360 if thats what they meant. Competition is evrything. Also in cinematic style to. Unless you think Uncharted 2 beats Mass Effect 2's cinematic style ( after the opening 10 mins of Mass Effect 2 that just isn't possible ).

Just so people know to GeoW 2 got 10 for graphics, ME2 a 9.5. So that clearly isnt the guage for what they think. Who knows why it's 9.5. Maybe the reviewer who scored it is harsher with scores? Maybe as time goes on they realise giving 10's all the time is pointless as other games will surpass it.

All I know is Ive never seen any online videos look as good as ME2's. When we play it, it will look better. I cannot wait to see the worlds to. Alot of reviews saying the draw distance and detail of alien worlds is amazing. Considering the first was sparse, it sounds like Bioware listened.

So you don't know why the score would be different, but you DO know what "the competition" means? :) Unless you wrote the piece or know the writer, you cannot know what he meant with competition. Maintaining your point, just illustrates the "stubbornness" I previously mentioned.

For you could also list "competition" as anything that has a cinematic experience, meaning every movie as well. It could even mean everything that engages you and that could even mean football for some people. Agreed, he is probably limiting it to the gaming world, we can pretty much make that statement. Saying it either fits the 360, everything gaming, rpg's and so on are not possible as statements.

LOL. The twists keep coming. Get over it. If they meant RPG's they would have said that. If they meant 360, they would have said that. They always have done. I'm the one reading the words and taking them at face value. It's others trying to implement they only mean 360 or RPG's.
