One funny thing about that list is "New moon" numbers... 683 million dollars.. not bad for a movie that cost around 50m to do

The thing I love about that is that it really really pisses alot of people of

oh and another funny thing is that "Twilight" and "New Moon" together have earned more money then pretty much all wampire movies the last 20 years put together

I love terrible movies doing well

Not much you can do when the script sucks big time.

Every major actor/actress in those movies have done sooo much better work on other movies especially Kristen Stewart ( this girl will win alot of rewards in the future)

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

It's a shame that simply because it is in 3D, and the dark knight wasn't (or Return of the king), Avatar will gross more money.

Ummm no. Avatar will destroy TDK's gross when all is done, by more than the difference in ticket prices caused by 3D. http://www.mcnblogs.com/thehotblog/archives/2010/01/how_the_avatar.html At this point 700 million domestic looks likely. Besides the fact, if people are willing to pay more to see AV in 3D, more power to them, you cant really knock Av for that.

And for all those bringing up inflation, sure. But by that same token, politically correct films like TDK pale historically too. But somehow noboy kept bringing up inflation to knock down TDK's numbers.

What about the sales of pepole who usually download movies, but know that the only way to truly enjoy the movie is by seeing it in 3D, in the cinema?

So we shouldn't count them either?

Talk about desperosity. Avatar will gross more whether or not you count higher ticket prices, 3D viewers, soccer moms, etc....

Who said that we shouldn't count?

I said that this is one of the reasons that Avatar grossed that much money, if Return of the King was in 3D, it would've grossed more than that.

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

Amazing for a movie that is only 'ok' but has people flocking to see it because of the over hype.

and that goes for Titanic too.

I prefer this list adjusted for inflation

Yes yes, we know why you've posted this, because AVATAR is going to take the top spot.

Despite probably only selling 1/6 of the amount of tickets Titanic did.

And Titanic didn't sell nearly as many tickets as Gone With The Wind or Star Wars.

Yes I'm aware of it, but as you well know, everyone is concentrating on this Titanic VS Avatar race ..

I'm just proving that tickets sold don't matter at all, really.

It does, people are going to claim Avatar is the biggest ever movie.

It will be. The box office figures should pass Titanic's soon enough.

No it won't, in terms of revneue yeah, that's all. It won't be as big as titanic (or those other films you mentioned)

Avatar will definitely pass 2 billion when given a disc release.

Will Smith has been in a lot of top grossing films; good for him.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Hmm, if it outgrosses Titanic and all those other films, I think it will be!

General concensus to any chart that fails to take inflation into account is that it is near meaningless.

Still good curio value.

Claiming a new Box Office smash always drags a few million more of the brain dead morons of the world into the cinema.

Any post that assumes that the only thing that changes over time when it comes to movies is inflation is near meanginless.

In other words, inflation isn't the only thing that's changed over time.  Gone with the Wind was released in a market vastly different from ours.  For every issue someone takes with Avatar, there's on that can be taken with Gone with the Wind.  There was much less to do back then in terms of entertainment.  There was no internet to torrent movies from.  Far fewer movies were released, and virtually none were released that were on the same level as Gone with the Wind for a LONG time.  I could go on.  Get the point?

Errr not sure whats upset you so much, but yeah I get the point. I'm not too sure you did though ?

On a side note, the Chinese government is pulling Avatar from theatres due to the fact that the Chinese government displaces native people all the time and the Avatar story hits a little too close to home. Avatar in China has been the biggest movie there grossing ~80 million. Source CNN news. Oh yea, the official Chinese response is that they are pulling the movie to make room for a documentary on Confuscious.
