I know... but to what extent..? and you need a 200hz minimum TV so Sony says...

Thats niche right now, if you bought an LCD more than a year ago, chances are you need a new one already for this to work. Good luck pushing that idea to the masses.

That's true but think 5 years down the line when 3D capable tv's become much more affordable and people have had their HD tv's for a while. If the PS3 is still on the market, which I expect it will be, it will likely also be at a very affordable price and so could potentially become a fantastic entry model console for 3D gaming for families. I agree that it is unlikely to have a major short term impact but it could prove very successful in the long run.

Next gen consoles will be out by then with the right HDMI as standard and the right TV's will be standard... so yes.  But for the next 2 or 3 years.... forget it.

No I agree, over the short term this isn't going to 'take off' and the possibility that the 360 may not be able to handle 3D as well as the PS3 probably won't make much difference to sales until the next gen starts. However, 5 years down the line for the reasons I gave in my last post this could really help the PS3 sell long after the PS4 is (hopefully!) introduced.

And yeah I think we may have took a beating last Saturday but coveniently we have now signed half a new squad on loan so the rearranged game may be a little better

3D is a gimmick , i just cant get into the movies.. Just so fake.

A lot of people must be able to.  Otherwise I doubt Avatar would have made almost $1.7 billion dollars at the boxoffice.

And paranormal activity made a billion trillion jagillion dollars at the box office..

Paranormal Activity only made about 108 million at the boxoffice (http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=paranormalactivity.htm).  And Part 2 will probably be in 3d.

And paranormal activity was made with a small budget by a unknown director compared to avatar...

and brought in like 600x what it cost to make... Can Avatar say the same?

It doesn't matter if Avatar can do the same because all it means is that the makers of Paranormal Activity will take some of those profits and put them towards more expensive effects and probably try to take advantage of the popularity of 3d with Paranormal Activity 2 to try to further its appeal.  And there you have it Paranormal Activity 2 another selling point for 3d tvs.

Because you know the guys who made paranormal activity personally, they told you that they were going to do that..

Point i was making is any movie, Shitty or good will rake in big bucks..

sweet. But sadly im not really interested in 3dtv just yet

Long Live SHIO!

Just for those people saying "I don't see 3d in the home"... weren't / aren't many people saying that about the Wii / Natal?

Some of those people who said this about 3D are avid supporters of Natal and its possibilities.

I suspect there are many parts of the first one they would have rather done in 3d, but couldn't do because of the budget.  Many of the movies' pivotal scenes called out for 3d.  When you can really do things the way you intended them to be and when everyone has seen what you've done the first time, then you up the ante to keep things interesting.

And not every movie makes big bucks.  I would say The Orphan is just as good of a film as Paranormal Activity, yet it probably didn't make anywhere near as much money as PA.  Also Let the Right One in is supposed to be the best vampire film in many years, but it hasn't come anywhere near making as much money as Twilight or New Moon.

Orphan made 53 million.

Thats alot of money.

And more than 3D just sold Avatar, im sure the story helped.

wii /natal didnt/dont require the consumer to spend say $100 on glasses for EACH concurrent player and say $1500 - $2000 on a new TV when they just bought a new TV for HD.

Nobody is denying it WILL be successful..... but in the nexty 2 years... no chance.

I guess sales of Avatar 3d and Alice in Wonderland 3d blu-rays this coming Christmas will be an indication of that.

The 360 won't be able of doing the same new clean 3D as PS3 (the old one with those VR glasses even the PS2 can).

If it was, dudes at Microsoft would already be talking about it to not get one step back from them.

And as for now, X360 fans don't like 3D, and it is a gimmick. Just like with motion control remember?

I'm not saying it'll be successful, as I'm not into this technology quite yet.

It's just amazing how some things are dismissed because it wouldn't feel right, doesn't fit in the living room (and that's not talking about its cost), people walking through the image (yay for smart Greenberg), while those exact things can be said about Natal and Wii Motion. It's just those "this can't work, but this other technology, that can be criticised for the exact same reasons, is the bomb"-kind of replies that are just plain annoying.

3D is like Plasma/LCD 5+ years ago. To darn expensive for the masses. By the time 3D is mass market price we will be next gen.

Also here is an article talking about 3D. I kinda agree with it.
