mario64 said: Ah ah yeah bladeofgod, the amount of "meltdown" and bitter posts from MS fans in those sales threads has been staggering recently. It feels like a Britney Spears fan club in it now. It's a sales website, so if you don't like some disappointing numbers, just don't read those threads or avoid posting in it. MS fans cared more about sales in 2006, strangely enough. |
Ok, lets talk about sales.
360 has gone from ~25m last gen > ~37m and counting this gen
PS3 went form ~130m > ~32m and counting this gen
Sales numbers show the 360 has made up some awesome ground to a titan of the gaming industry. I also concede that PS3 will finish above MS at the end but still masive turn arounds dont happen all in one gen, unless your name is Nintendo...=0)
As for people complaining about the price point thats an excuse and nothing more. Its also a poor one. The PS3 is more expensive than the 360 because its more powerfull. So Sony made a more powerfull machine and is taking huge money hits to sell it. If they sold it at the price of the 360 from day one they would be screwed. I also dissagree that they knew this was ganna happen. Sonys was a bunch of cocky doughbags. They thought everyone was ganna go out and "get a second job" to buy there over priced system and they were wrong.
Now i just want you all to know i love my PS3, yes i own one. I would not own a 360 unless i got one free. MS is a bunch dickheads with there $100 wireless adapters and faulty systems. But with that being said you cant ignore the facts that MS has done some great this this gen and Sony F'ed up.
With all that being said theres nothing wrong with PS fans here being happy there system is selling well. But act like adults please. You never know when MS will come back and whop your asses and these treads will be brought back up again. And if some MS fanboy is trying to tell you not to be happy just ignore him and go play some of thoes fantastic PS3 games and take comfort if knowing that same 360 fan will prob be sending his 360 back to MS for its 3rd RRoD sooner than later and we can all have a laugh.
So go ahead and spin that all you like.
Sales numbers mostly show 360 has had a one year headstart and was alone without competitor as a next gen console, a huge advantage for MS, a huge blunder by Sony. Had both consoles been released at the same time, console war wouldn't even have existed actually. Counting the units now doesn't make sense, this gen is only half its lifetime. Or take it at the PS3 launch instant to make your point even better, it's 5million vs zero for PS3, wow it's so impressive to sell more when your competitor isn't released. lol
They also show 360 was lot cheaper than the PS3. Other than that, they don't show anything. Sony coming back on top in core gaming, as usual. Just slower due to spending a lot more than needed in R & D. MS slowly going to last place again. Business as usual.
Nintendo winning hugely in casual gaming is the major new fact, which is nice. Some of those people will buy a PS4 eventually.
When will the 360 come back you say ? It won't. Unless you think Natal will steal the Wii crowd. Which I highly doubt. Not a chance.

Fair enough and i agree with the head start thing. But i said Sony F'ed up and that was part of it. Ya know if Nintendo used CDs for the N64 back in the day then the FF games, amung many other great games, would have never been on the PS1. But that didnt happen so things turned out the way they did. Same thing this gen.
Also no one forced Sony to make such a monster of a machine. That was there decision and they have suffered because of it. Not an excuse either. They made a monster and they had to charge acordingly. There decision and a wrong one.
And i agree that MS will end up in last place but my point stands. They have made up some important ground this gen. Maby next gen they take it all. Who knows.

So now the PS2 doesn't exist?
If counted as a console from this generation it would be the 2nd best selling console I believe.
Do you know what its like to live on the far side of Uranus?
Without HD competitor (same gen HD console) obviously. 360 doesn't compete with PS2.
@ mario64 - alot of risky predictions and bold statements.
My cents on the whole war is that Microsoft and Sony ruined the way we look at generations when first MS released both the xbox and the 360 within the same ongoing generation with the PS2 and GC. And then when Sony kept the PS2 alive aswell as releasing the PS3. You can't really look at this as black or white, there's a grey area to it.
The "this is the next gen and it contains these products"-view is faulty. The only way you can get a sense of who is "winning" is by looking at trends. Who's improving on itself, which one has an upward trend compared to other similar products on the market.
And you cant really hard ball it with "the PS2 had 130m, and the PS3 has 32m", since the PS2 is still on the market 4 years into the "next gen". While Microsoft, much like Nintendo, released a product, ran with it, ended it, released a new product. They had a clear start and stop to the "generation", while both Playstations are still co-exsisting.
I think this "generation" will continue on for a looong time. There will be minor upgrades to hardware and more focus on evolving their respective Online communities. Both the 360 and PS3 will live long and prosper. Mostly because there isn't really any demand for higher specs and new features. I don't see why one would leave the 360 for a 360 with better speed and gfx when the console today suits most users. Much like the iPhone 3G and 3GS. There might be a few who would trade up, techies, but since the community most likely will be the same and the games aswell. The tech upgrade dosen't seem to justify a purchase.
End story..

Obviously two game machines don't compete with each other. It would be like comparing a car to a pair of shoes. Sorry I mentioned it.

I like the sports team analogy.
PS3 is like a team that looked very good on paper before the season started. It was the favorite to win it all based on the expert predictions. However, it stumbled out of gate and underachieved after the season started. Although it has been doing a lot better in the last 4 months, its overall record is still worse than the competition which makes it the underdog right now.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
You got it.
Think of the cubs every year its their year... every year they choke.
