I think Sir Howard Stringer is entirely correct. The data showing the latest sales from this weekend won't even be available at vgchartz till about wednesday of this week. It was only then that they finally got stock, and and advertisements, and retail promotions, all going at the same time. The data will start to come in, reflecting the new higher sales....and higher than just the holiday season would suggest...to get an idea on that, compare it to PS2 sales, which will only get a seasonal boost and nothing else.
the week old data, reflecting supply constraints from last week, cannot be used to guage any kind of trend...I guess that's one issue with getting data each week, is people read too much into it.
The real story here, is the pentup PS3 demand, coming out at the $399 price point. My guess would have been, that $399 is not the magic number, but more like $199. Very interesting that its taking off as it is, at $399...the most expensive of all consoles.
