Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do 3rd parties have a right to complain about sales?

I'll have no trash-talking about Just Dance! Suda51 is advertising for it!

The user-submitted reviews for Just Dance are actually quite favorable.

Even then...

Would you rather Ubisoft give you Just Dance 2, or would you rather Ubisoft give you Assassin's Creed 2?

How about a new Assassin's Creed that used the Wiimote instead of shoehorning the controls, which is what converting that game to the Wii would do.

And considering the Wii party game sequel sales, it's likely Just Dance 2 isn't coming either.

Well that's my point. You would rather have an Assassin's Creed game than some random Dance game.

With these sales though, you really think Ubisoft should be thinking about making an exclusive blockbuster for Wii, when they can put a small effort into making some dance game, and probably make just as much profit... If not more?

Why is it likely? How many "Imagine" titles have Ubisoft made? "Petz" games? "Rabbids" games? It's very likely we will see another Just Dance game.

They can make both. Such a false dichotomy is part of what is losing developers respect.

And the imagine games and Rabbids games are dropping in sales with the successive games, so sequels are no longer a safe bet in the expanded market.

Sure they could do both... But they don't see the point, when they could make quick and easy money from games like Just Dance.

Yeah they are dropping, but they are still selling more than enough to make a profit.

yes they do

A sequel to a garbage game.... or a dancing game... I'm just not sure...

That sequel to a garbage game has sold over 6 Million copies so far, and is in the run for plenty of GotY awards.

Still, it doesn't change the fact that Assassin's Creed is a terrible example of saying 'look what you could have'.

A hell of a lot of gamers were put off by the repetitive nonsense of the first....

I for one never finished the first, and have no motivation to pick up the second, and I know I'm not alone there.

Assassin's Creed was used because we were talking Ubisoft. And AC is also a game Reggie wants on Wii.

Assassin's Creed is by far Ubisoft's biggest "blockbuster franchise".

It's not seeing that they can do both that is the problem.

"Yeah they are dropping, but they are still selling more than enough to make a profit."

They did say they were cutting back on those due to market saturation.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Third parties are in a bad spot right now with the wii. They see it as too risky to invest in a AAA title. They know that COD, Assasin's Creed, etc. are going to sell well for the HD systems, but they aren't sure if it will on the wii. They know that what it is needed in the wii is a "hardcore" AAA exclusive to finally get the audience they need to sell those games, but no one is willing to take that chance. Unlike Nintendo that makes money on harware, 3rd parties only have software revenue, so that is why they fear the risk. they go for the sure thing.

They test the current market to see if the "casuals" will buy into "hardcore" material but of course they don't. It's a different audience. The few stuff they sell is to the hardcore wii owners but those are not the larger part of the audience.

To answer the OP, they should not complaint, because they know what needs to be done. If for example GTA4 would have been a Wii exclusive, then a hardcore wii audience would have been expanded enough to sell more hardcore games in the future. (of course this is all opinion and speculation.

"¿Por qué justo a mí tenía que tocarme ser yo?"

No, if the games aren't selling they're doing something wrong. "Only Nintendo games sell on Nintendo systems" is a lame excuse to cover their rears for bad decision-making.

I will say that making a hit on Wii is not going to be exactly the same as making a hit on the other consoles. A direct remake of a game like Final Fantasy XIII probably won't match the HD sales because Wii owners aren't looking for an interactive movie - type game. That doesn't mean they aren't looking for a proper sequel to Final Fantasy I or Final Fantasy IV, though.

On the other hand, with 64 million owners, I don't understand why third parties are giving us spin-offs developed by their B-teams. There are 10-million+ selling game ideas just waiting to be developed on Wii but the big companies don't even seem to be trying.

Even if Nintendo had 90% of the market share, 3rd party developers would still make up excuses to get out of their obligation to support Nintendo. They know damn well that they can succeed on the system, they just don't want to, they want the Wii to just go away. 3rd parties made it very clear they would rather accept death than support dirsuption.

Just Dance is selling - because Just Dance actually had an advertising campaign. A quite effective one. Add to THAT quite favorable user reviews, and you have a game that sells.
