Forums - Sony Discussion - It's odd to know this is going to happen

Edit: I can see now the pic

In about ten years? You mean you'll only "get rid" the PS3 in 2020?

I think you'll do it earlier my friend :P

Thats technology for you. XD

Imagine how it is for those of us that were first excited about the awesome Atari 2600 and PC gaming in the day and how you could actually play video games at home and on your own TV. What could be more awesome than that.

Today just blows my mind what we can do. I find some of the discussions on what system has more power or better graphics just crazy. What the systems can do today is amazing, so much more than when I first started gaming. Arguing over the little difference between current generation capability is silly.

I still have my NES, SNES and Atari 2600, beacuse they represented a part of my growing up. But my PS1, PS2 and Xbox have all gone. They feel so throwaway when the new ones come out, I don't feel any attachment to them for some reason. And I'll happily sell or trade my PS3 and 360 when the new one's come out and never look back. Why would I? They're just plastic things, and the games will always be there thanks to DD and/or Cloud computing. Plus next gen Sony may make a new controller finally!

That is the natural order of things, a better and stronger piece of hardware will replace the actual one(s).
PS2 is almost 10 years old and i still play a lot, mainly 480p games, almost as on PS3 and PC.
PS1 and Saturn is quite impossible for me to play, too much dated, but i still find fun in some very old games from Megadrive.

I don't recall the PS2 ever being able to do progressive scan.

I have 3 titles on top of my head that did it: star ocean till the end of times, valkyrie profile and radiata story.

@Oliist, R.I.P 60 GB :(

@Bamboleo, I don't plan on ever getting rid of any consoles that I own, I just mean to stop using them.

Ah the nature of a consumer culture, kind of reminds me of people. We lust after the latest celebrities (anime chicks for the freaks) then we cast aside and ignore the old. The wonders of western culture.

Yeah thats right. Its strange that we idolize and idealize persons who has talent. A good example on the top of  my head is Michael Jackson. As an artist he has great talent but when it comes to being a human he is has nothing more to offer than any person out there.

Ps2 can do 480p in some games:

You will need a component cable and an HDTV.
