isupply just came out with another estimate...

Ps3 cost reduction > Ps3 price reduction

Can I get an apology?

That's materials/assembly for the console only (which is all iSupply teardowns cover), being a $37 loss.  Doesn't include controller, cables, boxing, manuals, etc, so overall production costs are likely closer to say a $45 loss.  And that's in terms of MSRP, retail buys in the consoles slightly cheaper.

They'd probably be breaking even on the 250GBs though.

We do have 2 legitimate estimates now though, and iSupply's is more recent (Dec 2009), so it's probably the better one to go with.

actually... it does include that stuff... the controller is down for 15 dollars.

Er, can you link me then?  Because the links I'm looking at don't have that, and iSupply teardowns are always console only.

http://www.tgdaily.com/business-and-law-features/40745-land-in-sight-sony-cuts-ps3-production-cost-by-35 "iSuppli believes that Sony pays $46.46 for the Cell processor (down from $64.40 for the 90 nm model) and $58.01 for the Nvidia GPU, down from $83.17 previously. The market research firm estimates that the PS3 console has a material cost of about $415.74; the controller (with 189 individual parts) may cost $14.84, while manufacturing is estimated at $18.14." I'd assume those parts you list are under "other components. I know the controller is.

its so always console only they have other parts in their tear down. AND MANUFACTURING AND TESTING!

Er, you're citing an old estimate, and even still you'll notice their controller tear-down estimate is separate.  That's how iSuppi does their teardowns, it's always console only.  Going by this it'd be $15 for the DS3 on top of the $337 slim (though I doubt the DS3 costs $15 honestly).

an old estimate that still lists controllers... something you suggested they never did... obviously they did and they do. and its far from seprate. Its 448 dollars when they add it together... go ahead... google ps3 cost 448... youll find numerous sites reporting it

No, I suggested controller costs weren't included in the console teardown... which they weren't in your link even.

lol, PSP seems to have died even before ps2. Kind of expected since it had mostly console ports. Piracy could have a hand as well but can't really measure the impact of that one if there was any at all. Sony better find a better U.S. strategy next time. They've lost a lot of ground in the market or maybe ninty just gained a whole lot

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

@Pristine : if PSP is dead, then why has it been outselling 360 for 3 weeks in a row worldwide ? Or is the 360 more dead ?

Why is the next real MGS released on PSP ? What about Kingdom Hearts BbS too ?

Because the games were greenlit years ago?  How many PSP projects do you think are getting the go-ahead today?

Pitiful answer in my opinion. GT PSP came out recently, and don't tell me MGS PW dev lasted so many years. Or KH BbS which just sold nearly 1 million in Japan alone...

Then there's Persona 3 PSP announced recently, or Persona 1 before. Or the fact Monster Hunter sold millions. What you say makes no sense whatsoever, as usual.

What about 360 hardware sales this week, you didn't answer ? How is it feeling for MS, are they fine being last behind PSP for the third week in a row ?

How can they be beaten so often by a "dead" console of the doom ?

They started PW when MGS4 finished according to Kojima iirc, so it'll be almost 2 years for R&D.  Some elements were on the drawing board before that even I think.

BBS started development before 358/2d even, possibly as far back as after ReCom wrapped in early 2007 given it's the same exact same development team (SE Osaka).

The games coming out on PSP now aren't a reflection on it's performance now exactly.  And considering nearly everything in America tanked this year, I doubt the future's going to look all that bright after this summer... time for PSP2.
