The next generation will be about perfecting motion control, just like PS1/N64 was about 3d graphics then the next generation PS2/xbox/gamecube were about building on 3d graphics. The idea that the mainstream will buy a new TV just to play some games is daft....they will buy a new TV if movies/games/tv programmes all become 3d but that is a long long way away. You will get a minority of gamers willing to spend any amount of money on the latest grestest tellies etc but 95% of my friends don't even know what hz their tv is let alone what it means. They simply bought an lcd tv because they were slim and pretty looking. Sony should concentrate on making sure their big budget games are not constantly outsold by games like 'Carnival Games' and massively outsold by NSMB etc. 95% of people want something quite simple and fun, they do not want to spend thousands so they can play a few games as they don't have the money nor the time to do so.

AVATAR is an exception to your theory, if people can get a cenematic experience like AVATAR in there homes.. trust me, it will be a HUGE selling point

if they can get it in their homes at a reasonable price then yes, but 99% of people who have bought big LCD TV's will not be buying another one for a long time. People have children, mortgages, cars, electricity bills to pay, they simply do not have the money to spend £1000 on a new TV every few years.

Remember the PS3 release price.....it bombed because nobody was willing to pay that money to play what are, at the end of the day, just some games.

i think 3D is going to be bigger then what people think, i was like you about a week ago Hammertime but i really do think people are in for a shock

People can play Resident Evil 5, Crysis, Bioshock, Batman Arkham asylum and about 300 other games in perfect 3D on the PC. They use a thing called "monitors" whichs tart at 249 for 3D ready 22 inch monitors.

So 3D is already here... and if people want to experience the best 3D, they need to go the PC route. Console 3D gaming will always be gimped compared to 3D on the PC.

No 3d is almost upon us it will happen this year because of sony's heavy support of it and because of 3d films such as AVATAR and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
