While the combat was interesting and some of the minigames were quite flashy (particularly the last boss) I have to disagree.

The game can be longer, and I mention that there are alot of side quest type things to take up your time if you so care to, but adding that still doesn't add up to a good value for a game that's most closely related to Zelda (which are the gold standard for value for such a game and have far more value)

And I definitely don't agree that the game looks beautiful.  There are a few cool visuals aesthetically, but technically the game is nothing amazing, and the sometimes atrocious dialogue/voiceacting helped bring the presentation back down to 7.0

Yet you complain about the combat, and give it no praise for where it works extremely well. And when it works, it is a fucking blast. Instead you trash it for the low points.

My problem with your length is it is entirely inconsistent with the text of the review. You say you got lost (despite the game being completely linear), and did side quests and yet beat the game in 9 hours. Without getting lost, and not goofing off I am at 11. I could have shaved maybe an hour or two off by catching a train here or there, but no way 9 hours to beat it unless you are trying to beat it as fast as humanly possible. The text and the numbers just don't add up on that one.

The voice acting is also not terrible as you seem to imply, nor is the dialogue. It is standard Square Enix quality. Yes it is absolutely atrocious compared to other media, but compared to video games it is absolutely fine.

the combat is the worst thing about the game if you ask me, i don't know how you guys can find it fun, when all you do is point, click, and waggle up , left, or right. No experience rewards are given, only medals (which are useless), though life expansions are given. The exploration aspect is the best thing about the game, and i do agree that the game looks beautiful compared to wii games, but below par FF XII

"This gameplay mechanic could get stale pretty quickly, but Crystal Bearers does a lot to keep it varied. While you can just toss random objects at your enemies, there is a bit of strategy in how different things interact. Let’s say you are facing a bomb grouped up with two goblins. Now you could just pick up random objects and throw them at the three until they perish, but that will end up taking a lot of time and you might not clear the area in time to avoid a respawn. I found the best way to take out a group like this is to find a barrel of gunpowder and throw it at the bomb, this will make the bomb explode but before it explodes it will shine and attract the goblins into the blast zone. Now you have killed all three in one fell swoop. It is also possible to enhance your abilities by buying or creating equipment and this is particularly helpful in increasing the range of your telekinetic abilities."

That is my paragraph talking about the interesting interactions that are in the gameplay.  I just don't agree that when it works "it's a fucking blast"

As for the length, I've played it, I kept track as I've played all of my games and allowed myself to play in 2 hour spurts usually.  I compared the final tally with that said by whatever save file data I can find.  As I mention in the review, I skipped alot of combat because I could.  There were a number of times I was walking through an area I didn't manage to clear the first time and instead of trying again I just passed it up because I didn't need the Myrrh heart.  Regardless I can tell you that I did get lost, I did play some minigames (I saved people at a crash site, picked rainbow fruit, and a few others) and my final tally was 9 hours.

Voice acting we will have to disagree on.  I cringed at quite a few of Layle's lines as well as Cid in general.

...

I did the exact same thing Torillian. I haven't bothered with most of the combat save a few areas that are fun (vineyard) skip all the optional minigames, and don't get lost. Somehow you blazed through doing more, and getting lost. Everyone I know who didn't get lost, and also didn't bother with side quests took longer as well. It doesn't add up.

That paragraph is inaccurate for one. The power is gravity, not teleknises. Secondly, it also doesn't cover other aspects of the combat. You can actively hurt yourself by combining bones. Certain enemies when captured will heal, or act as a projectile.

Also, combat has a reward in the parts for new equipment. I don't bother most of the time, but pieces do drop when I get around to it. Completely pointless is entirely inaccurate.

Oh and not to mention the complete exclusion of the coolest part of the game. The NPC interaction. They act, and react actively to what you do. Typically the Selkies try to chase me out of their village with a vengeance. This probably relates to an incident where a few "accidentally" fell off while I happened to be in the area. Really nobodies fault but their own for standing so close to ledges. Still, they hunt me. While you can't talk to them, the level of interaction is a notch above your typical Zelda, or FF game I would say.

You can disagree about the length all you want. I know what I played and I know how long it took.

well yeah there are other interactions, I'm not going to go through them all. I went through the coolest one I found. How long do you want reviews to be?

I said that there was little incentive to try and clear an area you already failed at and I stand by that. I got through the entire game with the items I made with the materials I found without any kind of grinding and only getting 3 myrrh heart s. And I don't believe I ever said "completely pointless" as far as the combat goes. I said there was a lack of proper incentive which I again stand by.

...

I was replying to Ari_Gold as well. I think someone else mentioned the combat in this thread too. Should have been more clear.

I expect reviews to be as long as they need to be to cover all the major points of the game. I read the review before playing the game and I have gotten a far different experience than I expected. That bothers me for obvious reasons.

We can disagree on length. I know what your text said, and I know how long the game actually is. The two are inconsistent.

You still haven't mentioned Wii games that look better.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

As far as the character interaction, I didn't talk about it because I don't want to write a book about the game. I played around with people and they would sometimes get mad and then chase me down and knock out a few coins, sometimes they would interact with each other, but I found playing with them a shallow and short lived enjoyment.

...

Basically every Nintendo developed game I have played looks better. Those are the standard I go by for what's the best of the best for the console.
