Well I am new to VGChartz and this my first thread. I would just love to put my thoughts about what I think of Nintendo.

First of all I want to question Nintendo's choice of Wii as the name of their console. They made it clear that it of course means everyone. Everyone sitting down or up and playing and having fun. Joy!! But when you really think of it, Wii represents mostly the casuals and the core gamers Nintendo has been able to gather. Besides Metroid what other game has Nintendo its self created for the hardcore gamers?

Wait, so Metroid is a "hardcore" game, but Zelda isn't? I'm a bit confused. You're using terms like casual, core, and hardcore. Stop grouping people together.

It has failed to even create new characters, it just keeps refreshing old ones which is fine since I love them but I do want something new.

Punch-Out!! hasn't seen a game since the SNES era. Sin & Punishment was a Japan-only game. Pikmin is a new franchise and they're still working on the third one.

Now don't say "but the hardcores don't matter, Nintendo doesn't need them" that statement is true to some extent. If Nintendo wants to remain on top it needs to demolish the edge Microsoft and Sony have against them. Nintendo would need to "steal" those gamers as well. Just imagine how powerful it could be when all the three types of gamers are in their hands. Yes the hardcore gamers are important just look at the sales of games like Halo, Grand Theft Auto, etc.

Again with the hardcore/casual terms! Nintendo has just as many "hardcore" games as Sony and Microsoft. I think I've put more of my life in Animal Crossing than I put into all the Halo games together. Let's stop catagorizing games as these silly terms.

Nintendo needs to stop with leaving some technology behind in their hardware. Remember when Nintendo first lost? Why was that? Oh yeah it was because it failed to have CDs and DVD format discs.

Nintendo has been ontop of technology every gen except this one. The NES was more powerful than the 2600, 5200, 7800, Master System, etc, the SNES was more powerful than the Genesis and Turbografx16, the N64 was more powerful than the PS1 and Saturn, and the GCN was more powerful than the PS2 and onpar with the xbox. Granted, Nintendo's choice to stick with Carts did hurt them but I still like carts more than CDs.

Why was the Gamecube so disappointing? Oh yeah it failed to have the type of size discs the others offered.

lol. I don't recall anyone complaning that the GCN used small discs. It was more or less the "kiddy console" it was labeled thanks to the marketing wars back in the 16bit gen with SEGA.

Now with the Wii, its a different story. Their winning edge is their ability to capture a lost audience who never would have thought of playing video games. But as a long fan I felt betrayed to some extent.

Wait, you felt betrayed? You were given a console with full back compatibility(something Sony and Microsoft seem to have trouble with) with the GCN. The Virtual Console? Revival of dead franchises? 2-D Mario? Two 3-D Mario games? Yeah, they're are betraying us SO much.

I love their games but knowing that the Wii didnt offer HD or couldnt play DVDs so my family and I could watch felt bad.

So what? The Wii isn't an HD console. Dude, remember how like, I dunno, EVERY CONSOLE BEFORE THE PS360 WASN'T HD? An HD console isn't required to play excellent games.

I know graphics dont matter but it wouldnt have hurt Nintendo to release one that was capable of displaying it. I say this mostly because of how Super Mario Galaxy looked when we got our 50 inch HD tv for Christmas. In my standard tv it looked AWESOME but when I first saw it on the HD tv I saw blurriness and the color was fainting.Really I felt sad, I thought due to my lack of knowledge of that time that it was going to be mind blowing, so darn beautiful but that didnt happen.

Component cables, bro.

I also have many people that I know who havent bought a Wii due to the fact of the reason of how ugly it looks in those big tvs and I cant blame them. My bro in law own all three and he said just imagine all those Nintendo franchises and how beautiful they would look in 1080p HD tv. I have a feeling for the next generation, Nintendo is only going to offer 720p. :(

lol. Please, if you will, name a few games in 1080p this gen? Hell, many HD games aren't even true HD. Do some research, bro.

I love you Nintendo but please listen to your fans. You even deleted those forums on your website. I love both you and Sony but Sony wins in terms of listening to fans and giving the best entertainment thus far. The Wii is fun but if you could only listen.

Nintendo released a game two gens ago in Japan only. Because of the want for this game(Sin&Punishment) to be over seas, not only did the release it on virtual console, they're making a full-fledged sequel. If that's not fan service, then I have no idea what is.

Wait, so Metroid is a "hardcore" game, but Zelda isn't? I'm a bit confused. You're using terms like casual, core, and hardcore. Stop grouping people together.

wow u didnt have to be so mean about it!!! Gosh I was only saying what i was thinking geesh. I thought this wasnt gamespot or ign! But some of your points are very weak.

I wasn't trying to be mean. Look, I agree! There are many things that Nintendo does that bothers me as a consumer. But what do I know? I'm just a consumer. They are the business. They are handling themselves very well.

good. I have a question tho. Do you know how much Nintendo earns in revenue compared to Sony and Microsoft?

Um, off-hand? No. Though I'm sure I've read some charts that show Nintendo makes more than Sony & Microsoft.

I highly think you are from ign...

You really should get some component cables. They're pretty cheap if you get 'em online, and make a world of difference.

Also, about the revenue question... dunno the revenue, but Nintendo's been making billions in *profit*, not just revenue, for years, while both Sony and MS's game divisons have been posting losses. In fact, I believe there was only a single time Nintendo's been in the red in its entire 121-year history, though I could be mistaken.

quick list of 'core' Wii games published by Nintendo

- Battalion Wars 2
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
- Metroid Prime Trilogy

among others Im forgetting

Note: I did not mention Zelda, Mario or the lick as I consider those games to be 'bridge' games that appeal to both the mainstream and the core

Here's my problem with this small subsection of Nintendo fans. You keep pushing and pushing and pushing for Nintendo to be something that they simply aren't. You say that Nintendo isn't doing enough for core gamers outside of Metroid. I don't see how Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, and ESPECIALLY Smash Brothers aren't for core gamers. But my larger point is, are you looking for games like MW2, Assasin's Creed 2, and Borderlands? Because Nintendo DOESN'T MAKE THOSE TYPES OF GAMES. They never have, and they never will. Why can't you just accept that fact? If you don't like that your types of games aren't being adequately served, just go get a PS3 or Xbox360.

I'm tired of people constantly pushing Nintendo to be more like Sony and Microsoft. No. Nintendo needs to be more like Nintendo.

I too was a massive Nintendo fan, who grew up on them throughout my childhood. Nowadays I struggle to touch my Wii (snigger) as, I just can't enjoy the games on it. Obviously I played all the big hitters, but for me it's been on disappointment after another, minus SMG and Smash Bro's with friends round :(.

I think i've just been converted to HD, and maybe grown out of Nintendo, or something.
