1. Where does it say the majority of showings are in 3D?

2. How does that counter my points?

75% of Avatar US revenue comes from 3D or Imax showing ( which are more expensive but people are choosing to pay higher ticket price to see it in 3D...

The movie industry isnt that different from the gaming industry by the way, despite it's higher number of revenue streams it's not an industry of high profits and for every Avatar there is a 100 million$ movie loosing money....

You're saying focus less on technology and make supposedly safer games for business.

Avatar success blows that out of the water. You have to take risks and even the casual public at large can embrass the latest technology and graphics...

What do you think the developer or publisher coming out of watching Avatar wants to work on ? Another PS2 clone ? I don't think so...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Industry=/=the actual works they are making.

"You're saying focus less on technology and make supposedly safer games for business."

1. We're saying don't put the tech ahead of the game.

2. Actually the supposedly safer thing is not to put big games on the Wii, which is what the bitterness is.

"Avatar success blows that out of the water."

You don't play Avatar (not even taking into account the licensed game bombed). You sit there taking in everything that's going on.

"What do you think the developer or publisher coming out of watching Avatar wants to work on?"

They've already wanted that for years. In fact, thinking that applies to games, especially genres where story isn't the main focus, is part of the problem.

Movies are not games. For one thing, they have loads of revenue streams, so they can afford larger budgets. For another, they are passive, so they can tell any kind of story.

Really ?

Who would have bet a 600 million$ movie shot entirely in 3D using state of the art technology would have been that successfull, especially when the huge majority of the showings are in 3D and people have been reluctant to wear glasses in a theater ?

here is where your argument fails:

No one says stop doing the big budget games (I know i would be sad if they did), what we are saying is put some serious effort in the games you release for the wii and thats not the same thing as stop doing big budget all together.

We are not trying to get the games you like out of the equasion, we are saying that both the big buget HD games and games with similar effort for the Wii can coexist.

Do you understand now?

Thats why i think its so sad of the PS3 fans trolling this thread because you accuse us of wanting everything (and thats no true) while you want everything for your platform and refuse to let them give us similar effort of games for ours.

The movie industry is drastically different than the video-game industry because a movie can generate massive revenue from its box-office, follow that up with massive revenue from DVD sales, get decent money from pay-per-view and specialty channels, and then get a steady stream of residual income from regular play on television. Because of all these revenue streams, very few movies lose significant money today regardless of whether they "Flop" in theatres.

Edit: Not to forget the additional revenue movie studios generate from selling the licensing rights to all kinds of merchandise, and books/videogames, which can add up to hundreds of millions of dollars for a big budget movie.

If you were in that situation, maybe you too you would be angry. We just don't get the games we deserve. We can only count on Nintendo, unfortunately.

That's the thing though. Why do you automatically "deserve" those games? Because of the Wii sales? No, you don't.

You guys cheer when games like Carnival Games sell a load. When Cabella's Big Game Hunter is outselling other big games. When Just Dance is selling a ton. Do you think the developers don't see these sales that you see?

When a quality 3rd party "core" game struggles to hit a million in sales on the Wii, but then when a party minigame compilation manages to sell 4 times as much (and probably for a much cheaper budget)... You really think the developers will continue to go the "core" route, and spend tons of money, when they can go the "casual" route and make a quick bundle of cash from some minigame collection?

Nintendo, more than anyone are to blame for the lack of "quality" 3rd party support on Wii. Due to how the machine has been advertised, and the audience it has attracted. It's a win/lose situation. Win, because the machine sells a ton every week. Lose, because it isn't getting those franchises the fans are obviously wanting.

Even then, Nintendo could bring them to the Wii if they really wanted to. They have more money than you or i could shake a stick at. Look at what Sony and Microsoft have been willing to do this gen just to gain a tiny bit of exclusive content. If Ninty really wanted the support for the fans, they could get it.

This, this and this. All I have read is how great the Wii is, bringing gaming to a bigger crowd and new markets. Knock, knock, guess what? Those new markets don't CARE about hardcore games. They care about shit games like Carnival Games, High School Musical, Disney Sing it!, etc... Nintendo and Wii marketing are the ones to point your finger at if you're angry. Maybe 3rd party efforts haven't been too amazing, but Nintendo sure haven't helped them much along the way. Actually, (being totally unserious here, maybe...) I think Nintendo DON'T WANT quality 3rd party on the Wii. That way their 1st party games can sell like hotcakes because of the lack of competition and choice. People will buy the Wii anyways because of marketing and image, and with only 2-5 quality games a year, these are all bond to get amazing numbers... If there were tons of quality 3rd party / 1st party EACH year on the Wii, none of their games would see the numbers they have (of course this is all speculation/opinion). The numbers would've probably been more spread around various titles. Seriously, this year (holiday season), besides WiiSports Resort, WiiFit and NSMBWii, what are the alternatives on the Wii? No wonder NSMB sell that much when it's the only real quality game released on the system in that period (not considering Silent Hill, etc because it won't sell even though full of quality) AND marketed to hell aswell. Nintendo has brought this on themselves, appealing to markets where quality hardcore games are not sought after.

Just because the Wii has a market that doesn't care about those games doesn't mean there isn't a market that does. And all the "test" games, and sabotaging of those tests, isn't going to make us go away.

That was the time Nintendo left for 3rd parties to get their games out to the market and they didnt take the chance sadly.

Movies are cheap entertainment and different than games, but think abot this; not all movies are released in all towns. There are some movies made for the sake of art and only released in NY, LA and big markets. These movies are not going to be released in places where their is an insufficient number of sophisticated audience members to make that effort worthwhile. The third parties are seeng the Wii as being similar to those places. If you want to see all the limited release movies, you move to NY or LA, and if you want to get all the AAA games, you get a PS3 and a 360. That's all.

Oh, but that's the thing. They did.

And what do you mean Nintendo let 3rd parties? How many "quality" games have Nintendo been releasing each year on the Wii? I can't remember seeing anymore than 3-5. With these numbers it seems like Nintendo ALWAYS lets 3rd party get their games out on the market. 2009 saw Punch Out! Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Fit + and NSMB Wii from Nintendo. Plus the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Woooow, great number of software right there. Lots of choices, like 1 game to play from Nintendo every 3 months... Since you Wii fans downplay every 3rd party effort aswell (Muramasa, Madworld, Little King's Story, A Guy and His Blob, Silent Hill: SM, and so on), that means there were 4(5) quality Wii games all 2009...

Oh: and how could I forget mario & Sonic at The Olympics winter Games. That one too, still published by SEGA..

The Wii is not a small theater in NY or LA. That metaphor is a total lie.
