This, this and this. All I have read is how great the Wii is, bringing gaming to a bigger crowd and new markets. Knock, knock, guess what? Those new markets don't CARE about hardcore games. They care about shit games like Carnival Games, High School Musical, Disney Sing it!, etc... Nintendo and Wii marketing are the ones to point your finger at if you're angry. Maybe 3rd party efforts haven't been too amazing, but Nintendo sure haven't helped them much along the way. Actually, (being totally unserious here, maybe...) I think Nintendo DON'T WANT quality 3rd party on the Wii. That way their 1st party games can sell like hotcakes because of the lack of competition and choice. People will buy the Wii anyways because of marketing and image, and with only 2-5 quality games a year, these are all bond to get amazing numbers... If there were tons of quality 3rd party / 1st party EACH year on the Wii, none of their games would see the numbers they have (of course this is all speculation/opinion). The numbers would've probably been more spread around various titles. Seriously, this year (holiday season), besides WiiSports Resort, WiiFit and NSMBWii, what are the alternatives on the Wii? No wonder NSMB sell that much when it's the only real quality game released on the system in that period (not considering Silent Hill, etc because it won't sell even though full of quality) AND marketed to hell aswell. Nintendo has brought this on themselves, appealing to markets where quality hardcore games are not sought after. |
That was the time Nintendo left for 3rd parties to get their games out to the market and they didnt take the chance sadly.
