Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Does Not Have "A Rich Online System Like Xbox Live" Says Yamauchi

So im sure they will make it good enough for PSN.

Yamuchi is right. I would also like to add that PSN is not a service, but Xbox Live is, which is why even quality can be upheld in the online community. I hate to say it but I actually enjoyed playing Tekken 6 more on Xbox Live than I did on PSN. It's quicker, less loading issues and funny enough while playing at my friends house more people were online actually playing it than PSN. I've played the same people over and over again on PSN. This has never happened to me on Xbox Live (even though I hate the damned controller for fighters). We're speaking of quality online experience here though. PSN is also weaker when it comes to sports titles like NBA 2k10. I really regret buying it on the PS3 because more people are playing on live and communication is just so much easier on live. Sometimes I feel so alone on PSN even with a lot of friends and sometimes I just don't feel in the mood to be bothered by most people on PSN. On Xbox Live this never was the case. God I need to fix my 360 or buy one of the new ones with the Jasper chip!

Back to Yamuchi though. I cannot blame him for taking the major initiative to pumping GT5's online himself beyond a typical PSN standard. This should be an awakening to Sony.

i don't think he is trying to bash psn but compliment it. Something harder to work for but has more rewards meaning xbox live has some set standards which every game goes by and easy to do. PSN you do everything from scratch with more possiblities than a xbox live title that is why developers who are working exclusively on ps3 are able to create new and exciting things on the ps3 not capable by others (bayonetta) but requires more time, resources and effort not usually taken these days due to deadlines.

I honestly agree with him, although PSN does have services that I like more than Live. It's just, as of now, Live feels more complete/user friendly IMO.

He's just comparing the (known fact?) that Live is a fully-developed online PLATFORM where every game on the 360 runs its online part smoothly taking advantage of the tools that system provides as default for any game meant to have online for the 360, and the PS3 on the other hand presents a disadvantage in that respect (online) meaning they have to create their own online system from scratch as he's pointing out.

gears of war 2 and resistance 2 i have had a much smoother experience playing resistance 2 than gears of war 2. It is not true for all games, multiplatform titles lack effort and time so ports are not as well made compared to exclusives which run like magic. When resistance 2 came out ppl wondered how it ran with no lag with 64 players online and now there is mag.

I just hope that he's good with developing so much so... that Sony's in between project for him would be PSN infrastructure. Wouldn't hurt.

Honestly, do JRPG makers even realize how hard it is to save the world? That shit is impossible!

Exactly! I have Tekken 6 on PS3 with a better connection than my friend. When I play someone with an inferior connection the match is cut immediately. At my friends house after the patch for both systems were added and the Xbox Live version makes an effort to save the damned connection. I sat back and thought about how a thing like that ruined my online experience on the PS3.

lol ya i usually like to buy multiplatform games more on the ps3 cuz my faith in my 360 is very slim no lie...i just dono when it'll stop workin....but these little things can get very annoyin :/

Time to boycott GT5 now!

Did anyone really think XBL is better than PSN?

Maybe XBL Silver but not gold.

Tho i would rather have Free > Premium

i agree. Live is more seamless, but there's also limitations to it.

on PSN, developers have almost blank canvass to actually design an online component to their games without sticking by MS' rules and regulations, or whatever you call them.

Live is better, but PSN is also great because its free.

Again, why would a free service be better than a paid service anyway? I would expect it to be the other way around. =P
