Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 in third place.... Does it matter anymore?

I think some people have not read the post. Either that or they don't get exaggeration, unless someone types "exaggerated." It kinda ticks me off that I can't be sarcastic without typing sarcasm or putting a up. Well, of course, unless I want to get reported because someone thinks I'm being serious, even though my comment is WAY out there. I know this is the internet, but COME ON!

Anyway, I think he brings up a good point. If you can make the games the same on both, fine with me. But if you can't, why punish those on the system that could have had a better version. I think the biggest example of late is FF13. I'm sorry 360 fans, but content was chopped off so the 360 version could be. There were 3 or 4 areas removed so that it all could fit on the 3 discs. I'm not saying that the game will be crappy now, just that extra content is always better, epecailly when it was already running on the PS3 before it was removed.

@ Slimebeast

You claim that FF13 has only 6.8 GB of game data. Now I don't know if it's true, but let's go with that. On the PS3 that's all it will take up, since it's one disc. However for the 360 version you have to take into account how much of that has to be repeated across all discs (of course unless you want to have to switch discs repeatedly because you're in a new area, even if you've been there before), plus code on discs 2 & 3 so that the game can read the info from your HDD so it can load all your from the previous disc (though I doubt this would take up much space). And let's not forget that on each disc MS reserves ~1GB for security purposes. After all this, you can see why they may have needed to remove things from the PS3 version so that both games would be equal.

If he wants to exaggerate fine but exaggerations that then don't apply seem pointless.

Out of the games you listed I would only give a nod to Bioshock. The story in that game IMO was proof games are a very viable story telling platform.

GTA4 is one of the biggest cases of games that went to crap thanks to multiplatform. San Andreas is a much better game in nearly every aspect. Thanks to the limits of DVD GTA4 was a massive step back for the franchise, so this one I blame the 360 for. Rockstar are great devs, but were forced to underwhelm thanks to being multiplat. They proved last gen that they could make great games, by dedicating to one console at a time. That is what I hope happens for GTA5, and I don't care if its for 360 or PS3. Just build the game the right way, and give both consoles the dedication they deserve.

As far does this game make this game look like a Joke?

Yes, they do. Uncharted 2 is so far ahead of Assasins Creed in gameplay, story telling, and tech that it is not even comparable. Metal Gear Solid (not SCEWWS, but exclusive) is way beyond RE5. RE5 is a mess, the controls are terrbile.

Really, look at game either published by Sony/Microsoft, or exclusive to one of the consoles. The majority of these games are so much better than any competeing multiplat, that they make them look like jokes. This year it is only going to seperate further.

Splinter Cell Conviction
Alan Wake
Heavy Rain
MAG
Halo Reach
Gran Turismo 5
God of War 3
Mass Effect 2

Name a muliplatform game that looks half as promising as those. I see Bioshock 2, and FFXIII, but we all know that FFXIII has been raped by being multiplat.

GTA4 is probably a case where a game went to crap because of increased development cost and inefficient development. You can't see $100M worth of game content, and the performance of other R* franchises like Red Dead Redemption are further proof as to how badly R* are being run. Further to this you can blame the Xbox 360 all you want but arguably they had an easier time of development with that console as the game ran better on that platform according to the Beyond3D framerate dude with a higher resolution output. Due to how badly they are run as a studio they would have been best to make it exclusive to the Xbox 360 if we took your logic to its conclusion.

With such a powerful position as a developer they could have put it on two discs if they so chose. Theres absolutely no reason why they couldn't tell Microsoft where to shove it in relation to increased royalties. They were not limited by disc space because had they wanted to they could have just as easily put two discs as the game is divided into islands which are unlocked during gameplay. Most Xbox 360s have HDDs and they could have simply asked to have an optional install of 4-5GB if it really mattered THAT much.

Name a multiplat? Well for starters both SC: C and ME 2 are multiplatform. So I'll name them.

Seriously, do you actually agree with him? That Sony "makes third party games look like a joke".

That KillZone2 is so incredible that it makes Modern Warfare look like a joke?

Uncharted 2 is so incredible that it makes Assassin's Creed II look like a joke?

Demon's Souls is so incredible that it makes Oblivion look like a joke?

Valkyria Chronicles is so incredible that it makes Dragon Age look like a joke?

MGS4 is so incredible that it makes Resi 5 look like a joke?

Infamous is so incredible that it makes GTA4 look like a joke?

That KillZone2 is so incredible that it makes Modern Warfare look like a joke? - YES

Uncharted 2 is so incredible that it makes Assassin's Creed II look like a joke? - YES

Demon's Souls is so incredible that it makes Oblivion look like a joke? - I haven't played Oblivion, but Demon's Souls is pretty solid

Valkyria Chronicles is so incredible that it makes Dragon Age look like a joke? - I haven't played Dragon Age, but I love Valkyria Chronicles

MGS4 is so incredible that it makes Resi 5 look like a joke? - YES

Infamous is so incredible that it makes GTA4 look like a joke? - This is the only example you used where I'll say no.

Thanks for your reply.

Mind explaining why think Assassin's Creed II is so inferior to Uncharted 2?

In my opinion Assassin's Creed II is clearly better than Uncharted 2, but not so much that it would make Uncharted 2 "look like a joke".

Its ironic that the profit and revenue made by the games which apparantly look like a joke exceeds the profit/revenue making them apparantly look like a joke by about a 4:1 margin.

I agree with the OP. Third party games this gen are terrible. SCEWWS have set there games so far ahead of the competition that it makes third party games look like a joke. Since third parties are not interested in even competing with Sony, or Microsoft for that matter, I see no reason to purchase there games.

However, I will be getting Splinter Cell Conviction, Final Fantasy XIII Vs, and Agent. Those games are being made correctly, and actually being built for the console.

To me multiplatform games are like putting on shoes 2 sizes to small, and on the wrong feet.

You gotta be kidding...

Fallout 3
Assassin's Creed I & II
Oblivion
Call of Duty 4 & 5 & 6
Bioshock
Dragon Age
GTA4
Resident Evil 5
Batman: AA

etc...

i don think h means sales, but the amount of polish sony games have this gen it's impressive.

graphics wise especially, and also not tons of bugs

I didn't mean sales either. I'm talking quality.

then neither look as good as sony games sorry, RE5 and AC 2 at most, but then this year games are leaps forward.

Uncharted 2 makes Ass_ass_in's Creed II look like a joke.

Demon's Souls cannot be compared to Oblivion, so you fail.

Valkyria Chronicles cannot be compared to Dragon Age, so you fail again.

MGS4 again cannot be compared to Resident Evil 5, so you fail.

Infamous is a bit too short.  The only thing to do in GTA4 is go around, shoot citizens/cops/helicopters, jump off of helicopters, strip club, etc...  It gets boring after a while so you can't say GTA4 is awesome.  Neither is Infamous.  So what was the point of your question?

The point of my question is that it's extreme fanboyism to say that Sony first party games are so incredibly good that they make third party/multiplatform games look like a joke.

About the greened line: can u seriously explain how AC II is a joke compared to Uncharted 2? I have difficulties understanding how anyone can feel that way, those games being so similar and knowing that ACII is the 12th highest rated game of all PS3 games (and even outselling Uncharted II on the PS3 alone, in less time).

Oh this is so easy to answer.  Assassin's Creed I (that's the first one), sold over 8 million over 3 platforms.  Does that mean it was good?  No, it sucked horribly, so please do not use sales to compare quality.

I have seen the battle system for FFXIII, so I won't be getting FFXIII until it reaches $20/$10 just to complete the game (I have a collection if you didn't notice).  I'll be getting ASII, but likewise not until $10/$20.

If you talk about rating, did it get a 21/20?  No.  To me, ASII could have been more detailed in everything.  In the village for U2, a bunch of kids were playing with a ball.  Drake heard them say something in another language and gave the ball back to them.  Sure I can go around killing all the citizens in ASII, but that would be pointless like GTAIV.  Remember the underground trap in U2?  You had to shoot the rotating wheel's edges to stop the trap.  That is detail.  Though U2 have quite a few things wrong (it's still better than ASII though).  I don't understand that if you shoot at a helicopter, why can't you shoot at the chopper?  It's like, if I shot it, it would go down in an instant, but noooooo.  Also, the blades of the chopper looked like crap.  Anyways, the script for U2 is very saucy.

Btw, Assassin's Creed II got crazy good reviews. Only two Sony first party games are higher than ACII on Meta and Gamerankings (Uncharted 2 and LBP).

i bought AC1, terrible mistake, long and boring game, but its common knowledge exclusive to a system will end up as a better game overall

especially in graphics and polish.

even microsoft have theirs, not not as many as sony.

All that needs said is that the gap was closed pretty quickly.

My name is blubeard because rosie has a blue beard. Just not on her chest.

Actually the gap of 360 and ps3 will be forever close to each other so even if 360 remains 2nd with 4m gap or ps3 take 2nd with 2m gap 3rd party's will not change their view about going exclusive as this 2 platforms have about the same userbase meaning their missing out like 50% of their sales if they stayed on 1 platform.
