Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Third Party Devs have made up their minds about the Wii.

trestres said:
Im not jumping to conclusions, just look at the amount of games each of the companies have coming up for the HDs and then tell me how many they have coming up for the Wii, or how many they announced last year for the Wii. I think Nintendo should start releasing as many games as possible, these companies will not support the Wii anymore with good efforts, or abarely at all.

This is just bare speculation, but I do feel like this is what Nintendo's starting to do with 2010 - when we might see them launch major titles for three of their most celebrated franchises in a single year.

I honestly don't take these third-party comments at all seriously. They often derive from an online editor zoning in on a particular sound-bite spoken in the context of a larger interview with a single individual working inside one regional institution which is only a part of a larger, global company. They only have an impact on gaming website forums because of the huge domino effect you get on the internet when one website reports a story, and then another reports the same story, and so on. And besides all that, they are just excusing poor performance on their part in a very easy and often effective way - by passing the buck.

Whether these companies are chipping in a lot or not at all this year, there are a lot of promising third-party titles coming out this year. And Nintendo seems to be going all-out on making this a stand-out year. There's no need to worry.

I don't think one can really jump to conclusions at this point. Yeah, the gen is not over, but the decisions made now influence the games coming out in 12-18 months, if not more.

Isn't it way too late for developers to change their mind on the Wii?

My Mario Kart Wii friend code: 2707-1866-0957

If third parties were smart, as soon as they saw how the wii was selling early in the gen, they would have jumped on it. But no they waited and then it was too late because all the hardcore gamers that had a wii, moved on to other consoles.

Nintendo will have to carry the wii almost by itself, and it will succeed.

What are these negative statements btw third parties btw?

I never really got what Ubisoft supposedly said about the Wii - they blamed the DS for their casual games market halfing in revenue. They talked up their PS360 line up, but that wasn't at the expense of the Wii was it? Just pointing out where their big earners are for the year.

Capcom promised more quality for the console... we've heard it before but it's not like they're talking down the console?

The Wii third party line up is pretty sad though, but then whenever a decent game is put out by a third party it tends to bomb. Seems a bit of a catch 22.

So what you're saying is that although the Wii sells the most sofware (1st and 3rd party) and hardware out of the big 3, you still want more support to go to it?

More support? Don't you mean at least some support?

Replies cam faster than I had hoped ;)

For referance sakes I thought let's compile what they did 2009 for the wii ;)

Great OP I think, and time to properly take a look at third party support for the Wii

EDIT Reformatted the table

I'm sorry but much more than half of the HD games are simply not appealing to me, and despite being loved franchises, many will have troubles getting past the 1M mark in each platform.

I know that for someone, it would be awesome to have Dead Space 2 on the Wii, or Battlefield Bad Company, but speaking as a Wii owner and other Nintendo systems, the 3rd party games aren't the most important between all unique and great Nintendo titles.

The 10 most sold game of all time are all Nintendo for a reason.

Nintendo can shit all over this 3rd parties any time they want. They simply don't need them. They need Nintendo.

That's why (again), I will continue to beat the drum loudly for Nintendo to pour resources into their overseas development teams (NST has to be priority) and buy up a few small development studios. Third parties as a whole can't be trusted. Nintendo is gonna need to do this alone.

Also, it's time to significantly reduce their presence at e3. Bring Spaceworld back, where Nintendo can DIRECTLY communicate with their consumers without the stain of the gaming press diluting their message.

No games have been as exciting as Nintendo games this gen. They really tried to outdone theirselves with great titles such as Super Smash Bros Brawl or even Mario Kart Wii. Yeah, Nintendo console do have problems with third party devs. But if you want to try those HD games, play with a friend who has a PS3 some of the games you wished to have on the Wii.

Many many are not as appealing, as exciting, as fun as Wii games are. New Super Mario Bros Wii doesn't reinvent the platforming genre like Mario Galaxy did, but it is indeed much more fun than Modern Warfare 2 or even Uncharted 2. Multiplayer is a blast... and Nintendo's magie worked again.

To solve the problem, the smartest move would be an alliance with Sony. Sony would take in charge the hardware side of the problem while Nintendo would bring their popular franchises to add with the few of Sony. If this happens someday, then this will be recorded in history.

Nintendo is really better as a third party publisher.

I don't see how you can reach that conclusion when Nintendo makes more money on hardware than any other gaming company. You're also ignoring the important advantage of being able to design hardware that facilitates your software.
