Forums - Sony Discussion - Console Equality

I'm I the only one who feels robbed when I purchase a 60$ blu-ray disk game to find out my version was compressed and had files removed in order to keep it equal as its counterpart (FF13 and Tekken 6)? I find it like, I'm not only being robbed from my money but also my experience with the game. I think Sony needs to find a way to end this practice and we as consumers of Sony products need to make them aware about it. We are paying for a 25/50gb Blu-ray disk not a 8gb DVD disk which bewildereds me on why MS charges 60$ for their games? Because of  'console equality' there are a lot of consumers who are misinformed of the blu-ray capacity and the ps3's power and who's to blame? Yes, Sony for not stopping this practice but also those developers who are practicing it, we shouldn't support them. My brother and I decided we werent going to purchase ff13 and even if only a few hundred ps3 owners don't purchase it, oh well, at least scummy developers like square won't get our money and it'll go to a first party company. it's a shame cause I was a big fan of FF and I cannot force myself into buying this game.

I'm not trying to start a boycot but instead want to read the opionions of others about 'console equality' and whether or not Squareenix latest move change your decision of a purchase. For those who don't know Square removed content that was on the ps3 in order to keep it equal as its 360 counterpart. also there's a good chance they compressed both versions of the game even though they promised they wouldnt for the ps3.

also please refrain from my thread if you're going to be rude. you respect me and ill respect your thread.

Link to this information? Where did square enix say they removed content from Final Fantasy XIII for the sake of the 360?  They didn't

This I'm afraid is the price you have to pay for backing one horse over the other, folks who go for both get the best of both worlds but if you opt to be ps3 only then you have to make do with getting the short hand or nothing at all.

Point of interest, Bayonetta

This game was never meant to come to the ps3 but Sega went out of their way to make it.
On the one hand you could argue Sega just wanted the munniez but on the other hand, a ps3 only owner doesn't have a chance to play it unless they are thrown bones.

But then there's the question of games like FF13 and Tekken 6

Why settle for busting your gut to make a game for a console that has the least amount of owners only to get small change when you can port to a higher install and getting high(er) returns? When you are catering for a higher audience on an easier machine, folks are more inclined to work harder to maximise their product but if it's on a harder machine with lesser audience number...the insentive really isn't there to bust a gut.

So by being a ps3 only owner, you are signing up to inferior ports and suspect hand me downs, begs the question, would you rather play a shoddy version of your 3rd party favourites on your ps3 or not at all?

I agree it is total Bull Shit, We as gamers are being robbed. Let the best console be the best console. That way we don't argue about it, its backed by facts. It is what it is. I don't blame Sony they built us a great machine with many advanages, They knew these games were going to require a lot of space on a disc, that is why they developed Blu-ray. There was a vision for FF, because of the 360 we were all robbed of the very best game possible. They need to make these games the best they can per console, if it better on PS3 then so be it, if better on 360 , that is they way it goes, atleast I get the very best game for my 60 bucks. But its really fucked up, they had the PS3 version done, ready to rock, 360 can't hang so they go and fuck it all up, thanks MS another brilliant job.

If you don't like it, don't buy the game.

Hooray for simple solutions!

I don't think Sony charging more for games would be good for their sales. There may be people that don't have to watch what they spend, and there may be people that are younger and don't have to pay for their own games that the cost doesn't matter as much too. But Sony already hurt for releasing a console far more expensive than their competitors.  Not everyone is willing to pay top dollar for an unnecessary luxury.  Even if the games on PS3 were as superior as you believe, not having a competitive price with the competition would just hurt Sony.

I think that promising the same experience for both console might be the biggest problem with console equality, yes ps3 owners were entitled to a better version of ff13 butgiven the for example bayonnetta was supposed to be developped on 360itsomehow deserves to run better on 360.

But if you want games to be better or equal on the ps3, then tell everyone you know to buy one then devs will have more interests in developing them first.

I still say don't blame MS for anything, if you want to blame anyone blame SE, they are the ones who decided to do it eventually.

Made all sorts of claims and storylies my particular favourite is porting of ff13 to the 360 won't begin till the ps3 version is finished yet we had a pretty version available at E3 '09 to name only 1.

I think the days of 3rd party ps3 exclusives are coming to an end I would Vs13 is the real last one but I'm not even sure that's 100% exclusive.

Best to just shrug and accept rather than be moody.

You also have to consider how many of the 100% of the people who wanted to buy call of duty or FF13 didnt because of 'console equality'? therefor that adds to low sales. also why not cater to the owners who till now cannot pirate your games? also youre agument can be debatable considering MS has the lead in NA but in others and Japan Sony has the lead so why continue to practice 'console equlaity'? the U.S is no longer in my opinion the main country to win. our economy is no longer number one and is still falling. this isnt the 90's where your product had to sell good in North America in order to survive.
