Forums - Sales Discussion - The Official Dec 2009 NPD Thread (Data for 5 weeks ending Jan 2 in 5 hrs)

Numbers for Reflex have too be at least close to those numbers. The last time I checked the online leader boards there were over 230,000 people online.

Awesome Wii figures.

PS3 vs 360 sales

I wish the VGChartz estimates would have been a better indicator for the PS3 beating the 360 last december for the United States.

Based on VGChartz data one would have thought it would be a clear cut victory for the 360. I expected sales to be closer than VGChartz estimated though, good to see confirmation, the PS3 even beating the 360 is the cherry on the pie.

December was a massive success for all companies in 2009. Nintendo managed to move tons of hardware and software, while Sony and Microsoft had a very successful end of the year bang with hardware sales. New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the biggest selling title on Wii in December, with sales likely to stay strong well into 2010.

Ps3 BEATS 360 OMGGGGGGG!

Not really.

1.36 vs 1.31 is a statistical tie.

I really wouldn't call it beating it based on how NPD numbers are calculated.

You wouldn't but I would

PS3 BEAT 360!! (by around 50K too)

This was a shocker to me, but less so after the SONY internal reports said 1.35 Million were sold

Well i'll put it this way.

Anyone who knows anything about statistics and the kind of thing NPD does wouldn't say the PS3 beat the 360.

It's well within the margin of error.

As for the Wii numbers... seems unbeleivable to me.

So what?

seriously are you really getting this deep into me just saying "PS3 beat 360" (which no-one was expecting), in pure numbers that did happen, chill out

It didn't though.  Because of the "margin of error."  The PS3 didn't sell 1.36 and the 360 didn't sell 1.31.

The Ps3 sold ~1.36 and the 360 sold ~1.31.

It's a big difference.

It's also not "getting into you."  It's stating a fact for people who don't know much about statistics.

No I will continue to say PS3 beat 360 in december 2009, because it clearly did according to the numbers

you continue saying it was "within margin of error" so they were equal & be happy that you know more about statistics than most other people

It didn't according to the numbers.

The numbers are aproximations.  Numbers that are aproximations or ~ are said to fall within the margin of error with the ~ as an approximate middleground.

Any two ~ that overlap with the margin of error are considered equal.

~1.36 = ~1.31

you can keep going on about statistics, I have made my position clear to you already.

Just ignore it. Apparently PS3 1.36 = 1.31, but 360 1.31 = 1.31. Margins of error can go both way. Statistical tie is nothing but statistics. for all we know, PS3 = 1.41 and 360 = 1.26. I don't care about statistics. PS3 > 360 in NPD for December 2009.

lolz. That's what you get for milking I guess. Way to exhaust your IP like that.

Well, to be completely fair, they did give away a good number of copies to people who bought GH5 early (like myself). I doubt those numbers include those. Still, pretty poor performance, but there is a mitigating fator.

Which... you know... is what these numbers are.   Statistics... created by a very complicated statistical alogrythem.

If the Statistical tie is worthless because it's nothing but statistics... so are these numbers.

By not caring about statistsics you don't care about these numbers.  Or NPD.

Those are great numbers for Reflex if true.

Mmm, i would be that sure about it, the Call of Duty on Wii is not that great, i know their second itineration might have hurt their sales, but 500K compared to the 1.5M the other releases had may seem too little.

I would call it great numbers if they top at least 1.0 million (which is unlikely)

I think it is pretty likely that reflex will top 1m on the Wii.

Here's BioShock. A game that came out later on the PS3. I think something around 1 year later but I'm not totally sure. It sold 1/5th on the PS3.

Now consider MW:R came out 2 years later and was previously on 2 systems instead of just 1.

Now consider that there are less PS3 and 360 owners than Wii/HD owners, which means there's probably way more overlap.

Now consider Wii games are not pre-ordered and bought up right away, but instead keep selling forever and ever and ever.  After a nuclear holocaust all that's going to be left are cockroaches and people buying Mario Kart.

Given all of those elements, MW:R is doin fan-fucking-tastic.

I dont quite understand your point, you show me Bioshock figure and it goes like this:

PS3 sales: 0.48 MM

X360 sales: 2.42 MM

Total sales: 2.90 MM

Those are good numbers for a quite old game as you have said.

Now we have the VGChartz sales for CoD:MW Reflex at 0.67 MM, these numbers are quite high now, but i dont think they would be called that great compared to the same kind-of-old game that Bioshock was on the HD Games.

About the market figures for the HD twins vs Wii, i dont see this focus that relevant since they are almost equal at 50% for both sides. OK, may be the HD Twins would have an advantage for the hardcore gamers they have, but also the Wii has that Wii-forced-to-be-used control that people loves so much and they call it great for Action games.

To be honest, i would simply resume this saying that Bioshock have super-surpassed MWReflex.
