You kidding? With all the AAA software coming from Nintendo this year andthe additiona l selling power os NSMBW the Wii will most certainly be at least flat with YOY sales. I'm expecting sales to be more in the 86-87 million Area.

Not really.

1.36 vs 1.31 is a statistical tie.

I really wouldn't call it beating it based on how NPD numbers are calculated.

This was a shocker to me, but less so after the SONY internal reports said 1.35 Million were sold

Well i'll put it this way.

Anyone who knows anything about statistics and the kind of thing NPD does wouldn't say the PS3 beat the 360.

It's well within the margin of error.


As for the Wii numbers... seems unbeleivable to me.

It didn't though.  Because of the "margin of error."  The PS3 didn't sell 1.36 and the 360 didn't sell 1.31.


The Ps3 sold ~1.36 and the 360 sold ~1.31.

It's a big difference.


It's also not "getting into you."

It's stating a fact for people who don't know much about statistics.

So, this means the PS3 could actually have outsold the 360 by even more then 50k?  60k maybe? 80? 100?

Or less.  Or even been outsold.  It's too unknown to call anything statistically.

When you consider the VGchartz data as well... it seems more likely it either won by a lower margin or it lost outright.

Though still not definitive in anyway.

Another take for X360 & Ps3.... Does it really matter? Looking it as a whole, Microsoft already won. It doesn't matter if at the end Ps3 sells more (which is gonna happen, at the end of this gen ps3>X360). But Microsoft has already taken a big chunk of what Sony had. I believe that Sony lost this gen. Just look at the ps2, completely dominated. But now we have that the wii is shattering everything, and that the X360 is fighting neck to neck vs Ps3, even though PS3 has something the X360 will never have.... Japan. So, when I look at the sales right now, MS already won. Yeah, ps3 won December by... 50k? (R u serious?) but at then end, Sony is the one that has lost the most.

MS has done well, Xbox is now recognize as a big competitor in both US and Europe, and has taken a lot from what Sony used to have. Competition is good for everyone.

Now, on another note.... Damn Nintendo, you have done it well. I wonder if they are gonna have a bigger year in 2010? Bigger Holidays? Just bring the black wii, and a few bundles and this year will be awesome... once again.

 I agree. This was definitely a big shift, MS went from 25 million to 39 million which is a big win for them. But most importantly they've actually been making money on their gaming division for more than two years now and have continued to dominate the software charts. Pretty big feat for the underdog in the industry. I would put Sony's biggest accomplishment in getting blu-ray to become the standard. However the PS3 have made them lose a lot of money and they're continuously forced to reduce price in order to keep in the market share race thus making them lose more money still. Nintendo is of course the biggest winner, selling Wiis at high margins in big quantities is a definite business success.

I'm glad you think that but If I feel sony wand and natal wouldn't do next to overwhelming results then I would very much agree with you.  But with a lower price and high budget titles Wi should do close to 90 Million late this year, meaning 85 Million+

Where did you get the info for CoD reflex from? This site has it at 450,000 for all of the americas into January 9th.

he said they were leaks, so NPD. Not bad for the game though. 0.5m for a 2 year old port proves that they should have put it on the Wii to start with.




If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
