Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Plus(?) in 2011 - First next gen console or current gen?

Imagine Nintendo launches fall 2011 a new upgraded Wii with HD visuals and something else while Microsft and Sony will obviously keep their consoles for at least 2 more years because they are already powerfull enough and "future proof".

For you will this console be a "DSi" and considered a mature more expensive Wii, or a new gen console????

I can see this scenario happening and Nintendo selling in 2011 the current Wii at 150$ (supporting it till end of 2013) and the upgraded one at 250$.

PS - Nintendo totally screw up with our notions of generation, lol.

... Did you just say "kinky visuals"? ...

... Okay...

mmmm no 2010 sounds better with the new Zelda coming, as TP was a GC/Wii game; a Wii/N6 game

Yeah but gamecube was dying already with mediocre sales. That isn't the case of the Wii, if Nintendo did that they would just be throwing away some billions.

2011 sounds right good with the console being revealed at TGS in late 2011 to not affect so much the current Wii sales...

good luck

this is BS btw not going to happen

I totaly agree with nintendo screwing up what we call generations. It now no longer means "advancing in graphics" it means what ever a developer wants it to. I hate it to be honest. That one company will go against the tide and muster so many followers. but I am building my bridge to get over it.

A thought I just had regarding nintendo HD. The new DSi SUPER GIANT BIG EXTRA LARGE is out now and that features a bigger screen. I'm sure the folks at nintendo are still trying to convince themselves that their SD console looks good on a big HD TV when it frankly doesnt. So given that they have released a new version of the DSi with a bigger screen says to me that we may actually get a HD capable wii that will render the old wii games in HD like the 360 does for original xbox games.

Currently the 360 makes xbox games look better then the wii lol. Nintendo wont be making a wii2 for years to come, but after seeing what they are doing on the dsi they might actually release a HD wii, with nothing changed other then the HD part.

Do it for the gamers nintendo! you know you want to! take a small proffit hit to give us what we want! Microsoft and Sony do it

If at first you don't succeed, you fail

Nintendo already said that IF they release a new machine, it won't be "just" a Wii HD, so not simply a Wii with upgraded visuals. So the question's really not relevant. Also, Nintendo's not gonna release a new console next year.

It won't happen. I don't think a device like that has been done with consoles before (an in-generation revision that significantly upgraded the device's capabilities), and there's a good reason it hasn't.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

My money is on 2012 for a new console (that is if the world doesn't end first! :0 ) and it'll be a completely new console. I don't think they're going to just called the console Wii ___, they will take the DS method and completely start fresh with an all new console. This is the method that Nintendo has proven works, while the NES -> Super NES sustaining upgrade, while it may not be a failure, will likely only lead to decline.
