Despite being my favorite videogame series of all time, I think I hate Final Fantasy's fans more than trolls, fanboys, and 12yr olds online combined. Jesus Christ. Are you people never happy with ANYTHING? The pessimism of gamers has long been something I've loathed (cheer up you gloomy f****), but Final Fantasy fans really take that negativity to a whole new level.

You spend all your time talking about how *insert newest FF game here* is the absolute worst piece of sh*t you ever played - even though you still played it 10 times consecutively - and as soon as info on a new FF game is announced, act like it's Obama's Beam of Hope shining down on your once pristine franchise to redeem it.

But it doesn't last for long. Nooooooooo. As soon as the game actually nears completion and more details are released, all your hatred for the last entry in the series is transfered to the newest iteration. This new Final Fantasy is just a massive pile of crap and can by no means redeem itself. In fact, it's SO bad that even that last piece of s**t Final Fantasy you used to hate is better than this one!

And so the vicious cycle continues. And in time, usually 2-3 FF iterations down the road, those FF games you used to hate are now somehow remembered fondly as a classic. In fact, it was probably one of your favorite FF games now that you think about it in hindsight! Oh and you admit how foolishly you thought when the game first came out and laugh, and then we laugh, and then you remember that you can't be too happy with the series, so you go back to hating whatever the newest entry is unabashedly with little rhyme or reason.

well I am an FF fan, and I can't really say if it's true for me since I don't know, but I can understand it.

For me the fans are s[plit into 2 category. Pre-7 and post-7. Pre-7 are the people that are true fans and probably have played most of them. The Post-7 most of them only like Cloud, seph and Tidus, lol.

That... Pre-7 fans are awesome... we keep FF7 fans remembering this:

there are many peple that I have seen using this behaviour though

especially japanese fanboys/some importers

sooo they hated FF12 & its MMO-esque direction, there complaints for it being too open at the time (these are no lies, people actually did complain about that) & its direction too bold & too far away from FF

but now suddenly to those people FF12's direction was a shining beacon of innovation & the direction the franchise should have gone in

me & lestatdark have discussed this hypocrisy before!

Soriku by the time KHXIII rolls around, KH fans will be the same!

Hah-ha, that was amusing, both that guys rant and Nik's post.

Totally hits the nail in the head, for a few vocal minority in FF fans that tend to cause a lot of noise and ruckus each time a new FF is released that doesn't equal to their FFVI or FFVII expectations.

I've been a fan of FF since FFIV and for all these 16 years, FF has been one of the few series that has always managed to capture me, because I embraced the series for what it is, not for what I wanted it to be ;)

I know that most FF fans are like this too, it's just that the minority which like to be "different" always has to criticize just for the sake of it xD

and that minority is more vocal than the ones who liked the new FF's

Its funny how a few loudmouth reviews made some people think FFXIII was recieved badly in Japan
