@Galaki, yeah, Mario Kart Wii is the best-selling racing game of all time with 20.47 million and counting, Mario Kart DS is in 2nd place with 17.28 million, and Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec is in 3rd place with 14.89 million. For Gran Turismo 5 to take back the racing throne from Mario Kart, it will have to sell more than 3.5 times as much as the best-selling PS3 game, GTA4, at 6.17 million. It's actually more probable than any of the predictions in the first post of this thread.

Yeah, it is. Anyone claiming that Gran Turismo is the highest selling racing video game would have to add a wee qualification to that statement. Something like "highest selling realistic racer".

WTF? GT5 is the biggest gun? Over FF13? Over GTA4? Over MGS4? I seriously cannot entertain that concept. Its just a racing game.

That there really says a lot. This "just racing game" is by far the highest selling racing game in history, other racing games can't even reach past its ancles in sales (Need for Speed Underground is the closest with less than half the sales of GT3). While GT 5 may not be the biggest gun on the PS3 this gen, it is certainly among them. MGS 4, FFXIII, GTA IV (both of which are shared on other platforms mind you) and GT 5 are the big guns. Actually, it is guaranteed to outsell GTA IV, it is also almost certain to outsell FFXIII since it that is no longer exclusive and even Prologue can compete with MGS 4's numbers. It may well end up being the most important title on the PS3 ever.

Yes, its just a racing game, the same way New Super Mario Bros Wii is just a platformer.

I just find it hard to believe that there is that large of an interest base for racing games still, at least one that would surpass GTA fanbase or FF13 fanbase

I doubt it will pass up Grand Theft Auto (that series' peak is beyond Gran Turismo's peak), but Final Fantasy XIII? I'd be shocked if it didn't outsell that title.
