In a recent interview, Michael Pachter has mentioned that he expects the PlayStation 3 to have outsold the Xbox 360 in the month of December, although by a small margin.

Pachter expects the PS3 to sell about 1.4 million units, compared to 1.35 million Xbox 360s. On the other hand, EEDAR expect the PS3 to sell 1.45 million, compared to 1.49 million Xbox 360s.

Pachter also states that he "expects another price cut for both systems some time this year (around summer), but notes that because its manufacturing costs are lower, Microsoft has the ability to lower price as early as March or April." He continues on to say that at a minimum, he expects a new Xbox 360 SKU in early 2010 (likely with a 250Gb hard drive) "at the same $299 price point, and thinks that Microsoft will cut price early in the year only if it begins to lose significant market share to Sony.”

Is this likely to happen?

He comes from a mid-level investment banking and research shop.  Not as high as Goldman Sachs, but definitely a well-known and reputable firm. 

He also has a lot of executive contacts with the big 3, so his statements aren't exactly just made up.

We will see how natal goes and I don't see Sony cutting the price soon...unless they feel that their "gem" can't match the natal, then it is...probable..

wont be price cutting. they are both priced with natal/gem already taken in account, a 299 ps3 with gem, and 360 elite will go up to 299 ish including natal
