Forums - General Discussion - Microsoft and Sony teaming up?!

I've seen 2 different Windows 7 commercials now and both had Sony Vaio laptops in them and it's kind of creeped me out.  Okay, I realize that the Vaio touchscreen and Windows 7 is a viable partnership.  And yes I realize that there is a great big world out there outside of gaming.  It's just weird seeing Sony hardware and Microsoft software in the same commercial.

The Sony/Microsoft rivalry has become so epic in the gaming world that it's like an alternate universe where commercials have Master Chief on the PS3.  I dunno, it just felt wrong and I didn't like it.  haha

Is it weird to anyone else?

no. Only in gaming do people actually think Microsoft and Sony won't work together, which is what I find stranger. Gaming is the only place where people think that Microsoft won't be allowed to use BluRay.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I always laugh when people say stuff like Sony should make their own OS for Vaio just to hurt Microsoft(Who buys Vaios anyways? ). What very few people even care about is that Microsoft developed some(one?) codex for Blu-Ray

wat r u talking boutt? sony ownz blu-ray, m$ cant use it!

Edit:

Microsoft and Sony aren't enemies, or indeed RIVALS, in any market other than gaming.

Sony doesn't make OS.
Microsoft doesn't make laptops.

Sony owns most of the media patents. Panasonic most of the player patents. Sony might be able to say who can put content on a BD, but it would be Panasonic would would get the right to say who can build/use the players.

i don't really think so thats how it is.

cause the highest selling bd player is PS3 and it is what made blu-ray what it is.Panasonic  then have to pay alot to sony cause sony made the blu-ray players popular but also took a hit with PS3 loses

Who sells what is not the issue. It's who owns the rights. We do not know the real numbers yet, because the consortium has yet to take the money they have owed to them. When the money comes onto the BD group, and each company takes there cut, we will know how much of the format each owns.

My guess, is the bulk of the money will go to Panasonic, with Sony coming in second or third.
