Forums - Microsoft - Anyone believe or hope Microsoft will leave the videogame business?

No both MS and Sony make the best Video Game systems, and they feed of each other, MS would not be where they are if not for Sony and the playstations, heck the Video game industry would not be here. MS and Sony really do compliment each other well, the compatition, is great for us, MS is going for a 10 year life cycle, gee I wonder where they got that from? So I'm a gamer and I love having Both consoles. They both have great exclusives between the both of them you can play anything you want. As gamers we win, they are always trying to out do each other, and come with the best games, Look what Killzone 2 did, then Uncharted 2, Look at the difference between Left for dead 1 and 2 Hugh diffference, thats because they are both trying to be the best and make the best games for us to play.I'm telling you now both Sony and MS are NOT going anywhere, they are both here to stay, They will both slap each other around for many many years to come, and plus anybody with half a brain should not want Sony or MS to leave, the game industry would not be the same, Nintendo can't even come close to carrying this industry, not even close.

I would LOVE for Nintendo to leave video gaming, their downfall will come next gen and when it does I will be rather happy about it!

Nintendo got lucky this generation with the motion controls and how easy consumers fell into the hype, this won't happen again next gen, this is when Nintendo will be in trouble just like the previous two gens.

Game companies seem to get on top because they seem to "get lucky".  Atari had arcade ports locked up.  Then Nintendo came with the right mix of graphics with the NES (and on portable front, software+battery life).  After this you had Sony come along with the use of CD's and polygons.  The PS2 had DVD.  And now Nintendo got it with motion control.

As long as PS3 stays on top , I don't mind MS in the VG industry. I just don't want them to have excessive lead out of all 3 because that'ld spell doom for all of us

You must not like the VG industry, because Sony isn't on top, and shows no sign of passing Nintendo.  There is no lock of the PS3 ending up second either.

Microsoft has done a good job in the gaming division. The Xbox 360 is officially a success and will continue to be a success. It's a household name now. They have kept Sony on its toes, and they have established some awesome franchises. I have always rooted for them.

Sony had a major misstep originally with the PS3, but have returned to form with some awesome games, lower prices, and new things on PSN that actually kind of level the playing field with Xbox Live. So Sony should stay too.

And finally, while I really can't stand the Wii, I really do love Nintendo. I grew up on Nintendo, and I'm glad to see them back in shape again. I was really really afraid for them after the Gamecube debacle, but they have also returned to form in a big way. What I'm still afraid of for them is that they no longer have the power to make gamers' games anymore. I think the more popular the Wii gets, the more they solidify their repuation for being geared more toward little kids and old people.

Now if Apple were to enter the gaming market, I would hate it. There is not one piece of Apple hardware or software that I think is worth a shit now, and I could never bring myself to buy a console made by Apple. And if they were to do what they do with all their other products, their console would be very stripped down and not as functional as the other consoles on the market, but they would make ridiculous commercials stating the opposite and spawn a whole new generation of smug Apple gamers. I would almost venture to say that if Apple entered the gaming market, it would ruin gaming for me.

you must have been sleeping all this time to not realize Sony is closing the gap and when I mean on top, I mean on top of MS. It's spelt as "luck" not "lock.

That is a very good observation and comment there richard!

They won't be leaving this business anytime soon, and if anyone hopes so, it's probably because they feel threatened.

This is why you will see some pc-fans hoping ms to leave console business...

They brought us Halo. They can stay for a while.

Please GOD no....

Imagine the PS3 without the Xbox

Still priced 600 bucks.
Still no good games.

Sony got the bloody nose they needed to stay in the game this gen. We will always need another powerhouse company able to slug it out toe to toe with the big S.

Nah I don't think so.  Even when both the PS1 and PS2 were dominating the market with no competition in sight, Sony still dropped the prices of the consoles regularly as production costs went down and continued to pump out great games.

No, Sony would be a fair and loving emperor if it became a monopoly...

Microsoft on the other hand.   yeesh!  *shivers*

lol funny, and true

Bungie brought us Halo actually, MS acquired them around half way through it's development cycle - that is why the first Halo appeared on the Apple Mac too (which was Bungie's original platform of choice at the time - see Marathon for proof).
