Forums - Sony Discussion - Bayonetta, why shoud we care if the PS3 version is gimped?

Heres my 2 cents on the matter. I heard about Bayoneta and I wasn't to excited about it. I then heard about the inferior PS3 version of the game and was turned away completely from it. I then was in a mates house on friday and played 20 minutes of the xbox 360 version and went straight out and bought the PS3 version because the gameplay is out of this world.

I have the game since friday and I have only done 10 chapters of the story. My PS3's Disk drive is starting to sound like a PS2's disk drive and I fear my PS3 is going to break. Every 5 minutes theres a cutscene followed by a few minutes of loading. Everytime I find a new item or book the game loads for a few minutes. Everytime I try and access my Inventory screen the game loads for a few minutes. When I'm scrolling through the sub menus of the inventory it even loads for a few minutes.

It is annoying as hell and it ruins the game completely for me. I have played the 360 version and theres no loading at all in the inventories or when you get new items or books. I'll tell yous this right now. If I here a game has problems like this in the future I'm going to listen to those people and stay clear. I've been gaming since the days where you had to copy 10 pages of a book into your computer just to play crappy pool but this is what 5 gen gaming. Loading like that shouldn't exist.

We won't buy it because we don't support bad ports.

Maybe I'm just being childish, but the developers have made it clear they are not interested in selling the game to me, a PS3 owner. I don't care about their game because they didn't seem to care about the market I am in. However, if they manage to patch the game to fix the loading, I may consider buying the game after it becomes cheaper.

I'm pretty sure the original developers weren't the ones who ported the game. Also you should be aware that death march projects are not uncommon and have nothing to do with the company not wanting you to have a good experience with the product.

I care, the title went to a PS3 preorder to a wait tell it is cheaper used 360 title for me.

Uh, so wait. You were going to preorder this game for the PS3, but because the 360 version is better, you won't buy the 360 version until it is cheap? How does that make any sense? Or is this some kind of dorky attempt to reward Sony and punish Microsoft?

Very well then, the producers aren't interested in the market I am in.  Isn't whoever ported it hired by the developers?

I believe the game was developed by "Platinum Games"(which has the creator of the original DMC), but they made it for the 360. Their publisher, Sega ported the game to the PS3 and is publishing both versions.(360/PS3)

Loading is never long, but it is frequent. You wait three seconds to bring up the menu. You wait three seconds when you find a new item. It's not a huge deal but you do expect better than this in the seventh gen.

Honestly though, how long do we wait in between matches in Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 online? How long do we wait for Killzone 2 to load every map? If you have the patience for that then the load times in Bayonetta will be nothing more than a slight annoyance.

The framerate is terrible at two points in the game. I think that's the bigger issue.

What was an essentially 360 exclusive developed title was ported late it it's development cycle to PS3.

Clearly it's not going to be as good. My personal take would be to evaluate the PS3 version as though the 360 didn't exist and decide if I like the game and it plays okay for me - if it does then I'll buy it. If not then I won't.

I don't see any bad guy here, just arguably some poor management of the title - i.e. they should probably have decided whether to stay exclusive or port earlier and allocated more time and resource. SEGA should also have called in Sony earlier as they would for sure have provided extra tech support to aid the port.

This is also nothing about 360/PS3 as consoles or their respective tech - it's about code quality and the difference you'll see when code is designed and optimized better for one tech stack vs another.

It's clearly not the ideal situation, but there's no changing the facts.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Buying a bad port just gives them another reason to continue doing bad ports....have to make them learn to research and port correctly or they'll just keep giving us crap.

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

Well the only loading you experiance in the games you mentioned are at the start of the games. Once the game loads it is non stop action until the timer runs out. With Bayoneta its loading in the middle of gameplay and its very frequent. I don't mind waiting a few minutes at the start of each chapter on any game. Its the constant pauses that ruin it for me.

Anyone who says this game is alright and that the loading times don't bother them, either havn't played the game yet on PS3 or are playing a completely differant game to the one I am playing.

Was this game originally announced as an Xbox 360 exclusive or are some of yous just making excuses for a very bad port. I'm pretty sure a few years back when this game was announced I heard it was multiplat.

The game is better than alright, i find it really enjoyable and the loading times really doesnt bother me as much (after waiting so often playing online games this is nothing).  I own and currently playing the PS3 version and the only load times that occur are when its suppose to load, picking up certain items, and when I enter the menus.  If there's any other random load time inbetween gameplay then thats news to me, as well my PS3 doesnt overheat nor make loud disc noise when playing it for hours, so that could just be more of a console issue for others.

Sorry but frequent loading interfering with simple action like getting an item or opening the inventory are much more inconvenient than a big one before starting to play...
