Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Anyone believe we'll see a new Ninty console in 2012?

I think 2012 will be the year, either in March or November.
The handhelds will come in 2011 I think, because they usually arrive the year before consoles.

Market leaders (like Nintendo in this case) usually wait 6 years to release a new console. The 2nd-4th place consoles wait 5 years.

Two years ago I said 2012; now I'm starting to think it may be later.

While I don't doubt that Nintendo is spending the most money on R&D and is by far the most prepared for next gen, I suspect they will not launch until after at least one, probably both of Sony and MS have. Remember (in home consoles) - no market leader has ever launched first and Nintendo has never launched first regardless of their position.

I think Nintendo is probably gearing up so they can launch 6 to 12 months after one of the other companies launches. If Natal does not significantly bring up the 360s sales then MS will probably announce its successor during 2011 with a 2012 launch window. Making the next Nintendo console come out in 2013. On the other hand if Natal is a success, the next gen may be delayed even further.

Now Nintendo has announced Zelda Wii will be released this year - I cant help but wonder if this is one of the last traditional AAA releases we'll see for the Wii platform.

By the way, this is probably true for a completely different reason. NSMBW has shown Nintendo that there is a huge market for games with the feel of NES games. If this gen does go another 3 years, as I am predicting, expect Nintendo to focus on Wii series and games with the kind of retro feel found in NSMBW.

I think they'll launch their next devices both in 2011, handheld and console alike. Wii's got a solid software lineup to take it through early 2011 (including potentially Pikmin, StarFox, and the Sora Project in 2011), and i think the end of that wave of software would be a good time to move on to the next console, without Wii having to go through another software drought. That way we could see a smooth transition between the consoles, and not like "the dead year" that GameCube went through before Wii came around

DS it seems like the same way, its on its last legs in terms of first-party software, even as it shatters records otherwise.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yeah both Sony and Nintendo will have one out in 2012. No idea when MS will make another console.

But why would Sony make such a future proof console and then release another in such a short space of time especially as their starting to gain momentum. I know their consoles have a 6 year life cycle but they wouldn't have made enough money off the PS3

2011 would be far too early. Yes, the console will have been out 5 years by then, but releasing a new machine so soon will totally alienate consumers who bought the game in the previous, like, 3 years.
You don't bring out a new console when the previous one is still doing so well. And unless Wii sales somehow come to a grinding halt in the next year or so, I can't see Nintendo seriously consodering bringing out a new machine. Why some people seem so hellbent on Nintendo releasing a new console so early is beyond me.

First, they didn't make a future proof console, they tried to make one. Second, they are not gaining momentum, they gained some in September, at the cost of losing even more money. Third, by the time they would be profitable, their competitors would be sold for $99, so they would be forced into being distant third(and not bringing home too much money) OR losing more money.

The xbox 1 didn't make any money either, yet Microsoft had to discontinue it after 4 years. If it can't be fixed, don't waste time and money trying to fix it.

I hope not. I have not money enough for buy another one.
