Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I believe in Wii HD

No HD Wii.

Nintendo will use the Vitality Sensor to go up against Natal and Sony Motion.

Nintendo will probably put out new colors for Wii though.

I don't know what the Vitality sensor does, and I have no idea what they will do with it.  Though it will be REALLY REALLY REALLY funny if the vitality sensor outsells Natal and Sony's Wand.

No, no, no, and no.

They did launch sleaker NES/SNES cheap models late into their lifespans...but Wii did just have a ~10m Q4 2009. I think even Pachter has conceded Wii is selling so well that 'Wii-HD' might come in 2011

yep, you read it correctly. I think that Pachter is right and at E3 nintendo will announce a wii that displays in high definition.

but thats not all it will do. I see nintnedo trying quite a relauch to reach mainstream gamers. sony relaunched with the slim, 360 will relaunch with natal and wii will launch with a new SKU. The relaunch will be huge, taking place soon after E3 with supported with massive marketing push and a trade in programme. software support will be the tripply threat of mario, metorid and zelda all within 6 months of each other, with retro's new title leading in 2011. as well as HD there will also be some other big advance but im not sure what that will be

possible additions could also be a bluray player and improved online but im not too sure of those.

is there anyway this could be true?

That is just crazy, no company does that unless the product is faulty and is recalled, do you know how much money Nintendo would lose with such a program? and what the hell would they do with those old Wii's?

Now if your talking about EB trade in stuff, then yeah it makes sense for those that want to upgrade, but to be honest, if Wii HD does come true, all it'll be is a Wii with a good internal upscaler, this way all games made now and in the future for the wii and wii HD will work with no issues, and the cost of hardware will remain the same, well to some degree.

On the developer side things will remain unchanged as the upscaler will just be a passive option available to those that own a HD tv and are using component cables, it'll be in line with the minor upgrades Nintendo does with it's hand helds, hell they could even add DVD playback with it being upscaled, though perhaps this would be asking to much from Nintendo since their main focus is gaming.

As for Blu-ray it won't happen, it's too costly, and as for online, unless it's something that can be implemented on the standard wii and does not affect existing online game, then I don't see why not, it just depends if Nintendo is willing to actually improve their online system which thus far they haven't really done.

im not talking about a next generation, but a DS > DSi, arcade > elite type thing. just like they were planning a new SKU that would play DVDs, so they will launch a new SKU . most places had a trade in programme for DSi so i expect one for this.

by mainstream gamers i dont mean casual or ahrdcore but the group inbetween. normally between 13 and 21 that , in the UK at least it seems, all have xboxes. They are the gamers that dont go on internet forums or know that much about gaming, but will happily spend a lot of time on xbox playing western games like halo, cod and gears of war. They will know about the big games next year like mass effect, splinter cell, final fantasy, halo reach ect, but the're not gunna know about darksiders, bayonetta, heavy rain, most wii game outside of wii sports, wii fit and NSMBwii. of course this is just a generalisation and not a set in stone rule but there are a large amount of gamers like this that i think nintendo will want to win over to get better sales of third party games

If there ever is a an actual Wii HD they should allow Pachter to announce it as a reward for his dogged persistence about it's release despite everyone and everything pointing to the fact that it doesn't exist now and won't exist at any time in the future.

I believe in something even bigger than "just" a WiiHD, and it won't be there before 2012-13...

Nintendo is very rich, they have an incredible team of in-house engineers, they may do partnerships with any other high-tech company in this world, and they may also buy any patent out there which may help to achieve their future goals...

And why would they rush to release anything new when Wii's still so successful? Let Sony and Microsoft move first, and then kill the competition with something once again a step ahead in "immersive gaming", that's what they need to do... HD is just an icing on the cake: think of the cake first, and the icing, after...

The next big move will be about 3D and holograms, and to see such tech released at an affordable price, as usual with Nintendo's consoles, we'll have to wait for two or three more years...

"A beautiful drawing in 480i will stay beautiful forever...

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

I think they will shock everyone by ditching the Wii and releasing the SNES with a built in Microphone and mobile phone functions, and instead of a free game you will get a voucher for a carrot.

Nintendo doesn't need a new system to upgrade the Wii like DS->DSi, they can achieve a similar result with new peripherals.

The Wii is being upgraded with motion+, balance board and vitality sensor.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

They could just upscale things up somehow, without the need of a diferent console.
Like an expansion pack or something.

I know, I know... the games textures weren't made for HD resolutions, but I don't care... even occarina of time looks gorgeus upscaled on emulators. Just Imagine Mario galaxy or Twilight Princess suffering the same process!
