Forums - General Discussion - Avatar is already the 2nd most succesfull movie ever created.

I've seen 9 of the top 10 movies on the list in the OP. Guess which one I haven't seen?
Hint, it's number one.

Just saw Avatar and I was impressed. I didn't think it could live up to all the hype I've seen for it and all the glowing recommendations I got from many friends, but I was really surprised. I thought it was very enjoyable. Not my favorite movie, but it's certainly up there. I'm glad that it's doing well, because it certainly deserves it.

It doesn't take inflation into account. Seriously, take it into account and those top 10 current day movies don't break the top 50 (I think).

EDIT: Whoops, I meant to say some of those don't break the top 50.

Here's adjusted for inflation list: http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adjusted.htm

Avatar is at #85 (but I'm unsure how accurate that is).

Isn't that just US box office though. Not worldwide? Either way you do have a point, Avatar isn't as high after inflation.

My new years resolution is to not watch the smurf...err, I mean Avatar.

Its #2 on the worldwide chart but it would be damn near impossible to make a worldwide chart which takes inflation into account. Its only #9 or so on the unadjusted US all time chart but when I went to see it yesterday, the theatre was totally packed (in the movies 4th week of release) so it will have very long legs and should at least beat The Dark Knight's gross if not Titanic's.

I'm pretty sure it can surpass Titanic now that it is in second place already and if it get any kind of Oscar/Golden Globes boost then 1st place is guaranteed if it gets the same boost that Slumdog Millionaires got last year then over 2 billion is guaranteed.

What a rip off. They still charged me extra even though I brought my own 3d glasses. Just added my $10 to this. Definitely a very enjoyable movie. I wouldn't necesarily say it's my personal #1 but it's definitely in my top 5. The experience was almost ruined though when the theater's power went out right at the climactic moment. Probably had something to do with the unbearably cold weather. Apparently the whole town was briefly out of power. Thankfully I decided to stick around for a bit and they got their power back a couple minutes later and started it where it left off. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up becoming #1. The theater was packed today.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

I agree with some of the others are saying. That money today is worth maybe half of what it used to be back then. Maybe even less. So its hard to compare unless you take into account the inflation.

Sink the Titanic! It has been at the top for too long!

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

As much as I dislike Titanic, I have to say... still a better movie than Avatar.

Pocahontas + Ferngully + Dances With Wolves + Shitload of Money + Scenery Chewing = Avatar.

Still enjoyable though. Not as much as District 9, but what the hell.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

Went to see Avatar again in 3D with some friends.

It sold out...weeks after the movie even came out. This thing is crazy.
