Well i was playing the mag beta when all of a sudden my ps3 shut off and started blinking. Then a yellow flash and red flashing lighting. Obviously it is dead. It is an original 20gb Ps3 phat. My baby that i got on the first day the ps3 was out and have played nearly every day since.  Will sony still repair this one? is it $150.00? Should i just buy a ps3 slim? I am also thinking i might have to sell my wii to fund my next ps3 purchase. I am just so confused.

I think its time to buy a Slim now. That 20GB HD is so small! I used up 20 GB's after 6 days of owning my Playstation 3. Its $150 to repair a Playstation 3.

2010 Hardware Sales Predictions

Wii: 20m- Sales will drop, but not by much.

PS3: 13.5m- It sold 12m in 2009, its only common sense it will sell more this year.

Xbox 360: 11m- It sold 11m in 2008 and 2009, I think it will sell the same.

Why do you have to make excuses to defend a product that you purchased, but that's the only connection you have to it, you don't make it, you don't lose or gain money on it. I don't see where all of the defensiveness comes in, there is no reason for you or anybody else to feel obligated to defend it. Now I would understand if one of you were a developer for the product and you slaved over said product only to hear somebody call it stupid or a piece of junk. But none of you developed it, none of you are mature enough to realize that. Choosing a product all comes down to preference, you chose said product because it is best for you. Simple as that!

Yank the hard drive if you don't back up (unless you don't care about save files). Then get a Slim it will be worth it.

^ i upgraded the HDD to 120 GB about six months into having it. Whats is about $179.00 slim if i call sony? how exactly does that work?

You call Sony's customer service and Tell them you got YLOD, ask them about the new Slim deal, they will send you a box and you send in your old PS3. Instead of getting a refurbished 20gb PS3 they will send you a new PS3 120gb Slim(don't know about the 250gb). So you get a new PS3 for $179 as opposed to $299. Give them call its a great deal.

Can't do that.

The harddrive is encrypted and only works on that PS3.

If you insert it in another PS3 the first thing it will do is will reformat it...

 



PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

I've gotten YLOD twice and here's my advice to you. Get a slim (especially if you have a 60gb ps3 and are out of warranty). If you get YLOD once, you will get it again. Refurb consoles don't last and no YLOD fix is permanent. After paying sony $150 twice, you'll wish you got a slim instead.

If you wanna take your chances and fix it yourself with only a hairdryer and sweater there's a link to a youtube vid below. It worked for me but I don't think the fix will last long enough to be useful for normal gaming. This is just so you can retrieve your data and sell it off hopefully as a broken system. My "fixed" 60gb hasn't been sold off yet but I will soon.

call up sony tell them you made carpets in india for 5cents an hr and have used all ur life savings to purchase a ps3 and now you are greatly dissapointed in sony and start screaming at them in another language until you hear the words "free" to which you then switch back to english.
