I've gotten YLOD twice and here's my advice to you. Get a slim (especially if you have a 60gb ps3 and are out of warranty). If you get YLOD once, you will get it again. Refurb consoles don't last and no YLOD fix is permanent. After paying sony $150 twice, you'll wish you got a slim instead.
If you wanna take your chances and fix it yourself with only a hairdryer and sweater there's a link to a youtube vid below. It worked for me but I don't think the fix will last long enough to be useful for normal gaming. This is just so you can retrieve your data and sell it off hopefully as a broken system. My "fixed" 60gb hasn't been sold off yet but I will soon.
