Forums - Gaming Discussion - Was Activision right to not pick up Brutal Legend in retrospect?

Remember how people got upset about Activision dropping Brutal Legend, and then cheered on EA for picking it up?  Now, I am seeing Brutal Legend appearing on disappointment list after disappointment list.  The word RTS (which got me interested) got attached to the game, and then it went downhill.  I am curious if people were hyping a game they didn't fully know what it was about, and if this is a sign of too much hypefest occurs in ignorance.

Anyhow, in retrospect, was Activision right for not picking up Brutal Legend?  And would Brutal Legend of been better had it just been an hack and slash instead of a RTS title that got an jolt of action thrown into it?

I liked Brutal legend as an RTS but it would've done better as a hack & slash.

The terms RTS and Console mix as well as water and oil.

Unless they're Pikmin, Halo Wars, and Little King's Story.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Yes they were. They can't put a "hero" in the title and milk it for 5 years... not Activision material.

i was going to get it i really liked the demo but i then read that it was an RTS

I was going to pass on it until I found out it was an RTS, so I picked it up.  Go figure.  I even saw it compared to Herzog Zwei.

My main thing against Brutal Legend is that it's a deceiver. On the surface, it seems like an action adventure title with some hacking and slashing but as you go deeper, it becomes a RTS and completely sideswipes you.

Not supporting anything with Jack Black in it is a right decision to me.

I blanched when I read how much they'd given Tim Schaefer to make a game. Don't mistake me, I love the guy to death, and I want him to keep making games, but he doesn't exactly light up the sales chart. So I wasn't shocked when Activision dumped him. I wasn't even that surprised when they sued.

^^^LOL

At the video game awards they wouldn't hop off his johnson. It was Tim Schafer this and "Game God" that. Senseless....haha
