Forums - Gaming Discussion - Next Gen.... more of the same?

Well nintendo has never won two generations of home consoles in a row so I will probably say they will be second place next gen. I also think that since microsoft has never won a generation of consoles (this being their second), that they may be in first place for much of the next generation. This is because they will inevitably be first to launch; sony is the one I do not know about, they could pull out a super powerful console with low cost and pioneer another technology that will allow it to become the new "IT" console like the ps2 and ps1 before it. I do know that sony will not make the same mistake twice, they will try to remain profitable on the hardware side and stick with cell and maybe add 1024 gb of ram and video ram to an already steller processor with more horsepower. If they do that then they could rule again or just struggle to get 2nd place from nintendo.

NES to SNES is definitely 2 in a row.

Infact everybody on top had a repeat the next gen(after the gaming industry came back to life)......NES-SNES , PS1-PS2 , WII-?

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Wrong I will post my reason from the staff forum. Sega to reveal a new console at E3, expect it hit the market late 2011. The console will have Motion controls but won't be the main focus for games just for time when needed or certain type of games , also the controller will be a mix between a 360 and Retro controller (Saturn or SNES). It's graphics will be close or equal to Mircrosoft's and Sony's next console. Finally the launch games will include a new 2-D Sonic, Shenmue 3 and a new Jet Set Radio game.

So it will be
1. Sega
2. Nintendo
3. Sony
4. Microsoft
5. 3DO.2

Former something....

Wow I'd actually forgotten about the possibility of a fourth contender. If a successful company like Apple were to enter the fight, they'd upset the whole order. I still say Nintendo isn't slated to win. They built their base on top of a bunch of fickle and impulsive casual gamers. If Apple were to offer a versatile, motion controlled home console for a reasonable price (huge if) in say, 2011 (a full year before anyone else) and relentlessly advertise it (like they do for their i-pods,touches and phones) that mound of part-time gamers would flock to the iGame or whatever its called in a second.

Odd. Future. Wolf. Gang. Kill. Em. All. OFWGKTA Don't give a fuck!

Fuck Steve Harvey. FREE EARL!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the GREATEST game EVER made!!!

I'd take a bullet for Square-Enix!

I want apple in to rape Nintendo with motion controls, rape Microsoft with online and rape Sony with some new format disc.

i hope next gen nintendo improves on their online and not be all motion sensing.

hopefully sony wont be stupid at the beginning and sell the ps3 at a ridiculous price and make it hard to develop for.

MS will probably try and take the time and make sure the next xbox doesnt have huge failure rates.

Consoles:
1° Nintendo because now Iwata is looking for graphics and he will try to be unique again. If Iwata wants high quality graphics for the next handheld, I am sure they will try to make a powerful console too. The PS2 destroyed the Gamecube in sales, so Nintendo made an improved gamecube with something unique to destroy the PS2, and that's why the Wii isn't as powerful as the other consoles this generation. But it's not just about the graphics, as I said, Nintendo will try to be unique again and the only thing the wii needs now is a better hardware.

2° It's hard to say... Microsoft has money and much more experience than before, but Sony won't make the same mistakes again.

-Edit-

Oh and Microsoft is really becoming very important on the consoles, congratulations for Microsoft.

#1 PC
#2 Nintendo
#3 Sony
#4 Microsoft

PC because the next gen will only be marginally better than this gen, as everyone tries to sell a console that generates profit day 1. With all 3 consoles being so similar, none of them will stand out and lose to cheap PCs.

Nintendo will still be second because of their momentum from this generation, and because I expect their next console will be backwards compatible with the Wii. This will entice 100 million Wii owners to upgrade to a HD Wii and preserve their game libraries.

Sony will be third because Europe still doesn't trust Microsoft, and Asia will hate the even bigger power brick that Microsoft will use next generation. Sony's first party games will also help it differentiate itself from Microsoft.

Microsoft will come in last because they will try to be bigger and better than everyone else (expecting Sony to do the same). This will result in a longer time between price cuts, resulting in more people buying Sony or Nintendo products.

If the above does not come true, then that just means that I have altered the future by revealing it in the present :)
