Forums - Sales - Super Mario Galaxy future.

SMG first week is a disappointment. It's a fact. It's a failure software and hardware wise. We should be prepared for upcoming major bombs (Nights etc., Mario and Sonic...)Is there a chance that this game sell more than Sunshine in Japan. Right now it's 80k behind Sunshine. What can we expect next week. I think it definitely won't sell more than 100k. I expect something around 70k. Will it break 500k in Japan lifetime?

You're being a fool ...

Mario Sunshine sold 800,000 copies after several years on the market with steady sales. It is very likely that Super Mario Galaxy will have sold 600,000 copies by January 1st and will sell 5,000+ units per week for over a year ...

I think you're really, really overreacting here. It had a relatively slow first week, but 300k is still very respectable, and Mario games have insane legs everywhere.

Besides, NSMB did three times more on its first week with three times the install base. Sounds only reasonable, right?

Also, I think the game will sell a ton better in NA. The buzz is pretty big for the game over here...maybe it wasn't as much in Japan.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I would say we'll know alot more by January 1st. We still have no idea how it will do in NA and others. To call it a bomb at this point is a little premature.

Hey, I've got an idea: Let's create some more threads about this!

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

@ Tetsuo, show me a game that sold 300k in its first week then sold less than 500k lifetime. Ridiculous statement! SMG will still probably be past 500k by tthe end of November & close to 1 million in Japan by the end of the year.

Mario Galaxy will have tremendous legs (130k+ second week) and will reach 1m by the end of 2007, IMO. Even FFTA2 sold miserably, people don't panic. A really slow period for the Japanese.

Wow, if SMG sales are bringing out the trolls at this rate, just imagine how bad it'll be when it comes out in NA and Europe.
