Forums - Gaming Discussion - Will Natal meets our expectation?

To be fair, I currently do not own Xbox360.  The systems I own are NDS, Wii, PSP, PS3, ITOUCH, and Mid-end PC i.e. everything but 360.  Though 360 seems to be a great system, I have yet to find a reason to grab 360 after having all other systems.  But Natal could certainly be my reason to grab 360. And I am truly exicited about it.  Now having said this, I like to raise a question to everyone.

Will Natal meets out expectation? Especially after the new information released with CES 2010.

When Natal was initially revealed in E3 2009, it was stated that it has its own internal CPU & Memory.

This was now refuted for the cost savign purpose.  This will result in the games using Natal not be able to achieve the 360's maximum potential in terms of graphics.  Now this is true with PS3 Wand, but as for Natal this is a new information.

Natal supports 30FPS for motion capturing.   Perhaps, this may be high enough but one should compare this with Sony's PS Eye.

PS Eye supports 60FPS with 640x480 resolution, and 120FPS with 320 x 240 resolution.

Now, Natal has not released what resolution it will support so the frame rate alone may not be fair comparison.  But something I noticed.

Natal has 3D camera, which PS Eye does not.  So this is definitely an advantage.

There are many other factors that has not been revealed to make Natal truly innovative technology.  These include resolution of the camera, software (how to process motion capture etc.) and the most importantly actual games that uses Natal.  So my interest in the Natal is still high, but after CES announcement, I think I will take slightly more step back before jumping on to Natal bandwagon as to call it is the ground breaking, most innovative technology.

What do you all think?

What expectations?

yes cause mine are super low, ever since the "ever wonder what the bottom of an avatars shoe looks like" incident

I'm hoping but it will be awesome. However, I'm expecting it to be about as useful as my Eyetoy was.

It will meet mine easily. But then again, they are very low indeed.

Hard to tell when they haven't shown off a single game for it yet...

I never had too great expectations, and won't before they show some more software.

I expect it to do well with simple games, and in the fitness genre. I also expect that a few more complicated games will use Natal a bit (though in many cases it will be just to add a few gimmicks to the game).

It's hard to be disappointed with expectations like this. Anything more than this will be a bonus.

I'm sure there are many people setting theirselves up for disappointment (change the world, etc), but overall I think it will satisfy the more reasonable expectations. I would actually be even more excited if it was used for non-gaming interface improvements. for example, if I had it in my TV and I could change volume or channels by moving my finger up or down, something like that, although I don't know how the hell it would know it wasn't just a random movement lol

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

Yes, like others have said, it will meet (probably exceed) my expectations because I don't have outrageously high expectations for it. I will be interested to see how ready the world is for controller-less gaming other than the sorts of mini-game and excercise titles brought to you by Eyetoy in the PS2 era.

I have low expectations for voice recognition. It will definitely revolutionize interacting with NPCs in the future. It seems clear to me that motion gaming will be made more intuitive, however less complex. Still interesting for casual gamers. On the other hand it will also add some features for core gamers. I pretty clueless what it will add. Grabbing ammo/objects/grenades , kamehamehas 8) or giving directions in tactical shooters. It will add gameplay elements, it probably won't reinvent a totally new control-scheme for core gamers. It will probably mix quit nicely with 3d gaming.
