What's with all the bashing of this product? It's definitely got some push behind it. Even if it doesn't "set the world on fire" (to some people at least), how about we give it a shot before stamping the word "flop" on it.

I, for one, would love to see this concept take off, even if it doesn't become the next Wii-like phenomenon.

It's because Sony didn't come up with it and have a rival coming out to Natal.

It's also because Nintendo has something in a similar vein that no-one else can have anything similar. Even though the wiimote wasn't the first out there.

It's the insecure rival owners hating it that would be loving it if it was on their machine.

the problem is that 360 fans are blowing out of proportune what NATAL will be, i dont think it will fail but i want both this and the PS wand to fail as they need to stick to the controller based games! thats why i brought them over a Wii

also, just to say......sony didnt come up with it?....um...i had something the same LAST gen........Camera based gaming is done

Whislt ignoring their consumers? Smart thinking.
Anyway what are you talking about? How is it a certain failure? You can predict the future?

The reason it's getting a lot of hate is because it's not on someones console of choice, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with whatever flimsy reason someone tries to come up with to cover that up.

What does the core audience or ninty ignoring it's consumers have to do with my point?

The wiiboard. Silly concept but immedietly taken on board by ninty owners without reservation. Why because it's on their console.
The Dil...Zit on a stick. Very similar to the Waggle stick yet with the years of mocking waggle this is going to be great. Why insert flimst reason by said fans.

The wavy arm webcam. Wont work but when webcam used in gaming was on the PS2 it was awesome.

Fact is the people who hate (though not all) only hate because it's not on their machine and would change their tune quickly when announced for their machine. It's subhuman fangirl nature.

@PSgamer

You want it to fail? You don't like options? But if you have a PS3 I bet you're glad it does everything except now you don't like something to give you the option to do everything?

Makes sense, also you reminded me of another good reason why people hate it. Fear.

Oh no they'll take my joypad away from me so attack attack attack.
It's an irrational fear of losing their joypad. It won't happen. The joypad is and will always be the best most used method of controlling a game but some people don't see this and get scared by the mere notion of something new.

And sony came up with a multi-body full depth sensing camera last gen?

Of course they did. You can always rely on a sony fan to shout "simpsons did it" I thought they released a cheap webcam poorly implemented into 1 or 2 games? And were they first? Dreameye *cough**cough*

I can predict the future by using business strategy, read Christensen, of the Harvard business school, and you'll understand.

No the reason people hate is because a product is supposed to satisfy the need for a job to be fulfilled, when it doesn't thats when people point out its flaws

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

What are the needs of gaming?  What need did Wii Fit provide the satisfaction to?

Did you undertsand it?

Harvard. An ok school, I'll read up using literature from Cambridge. Hey now that means I can predict the future better than you.

So natal hasn't fulfilled the need for the job it's supposed to. you know this because it's out already? Because you've tried it? It doesn't do full body depth tracking? Oh wait? Guess it's filled it's brief.

Please, leave your snobbery at the door. You can't predict the future and to flat out claim you can is laughable. You don't know, very few do and those that predict it accurately were lucky than anything else. Did you predict the success of the Wii?

I bet you did.

CES 2010

Project Natal for the Xbox 360, which debuted to wide praise at E3 last summer, lets players control video games with movements and words.

And gesture recognition companies hope that the gaming-industry buzz generated by Natal will extend into the wider consumer electronics world.

"The momentum they have created around Natal has created a lot of momentum in this industry," says Michel Tombroff, CEO of Softkinetic, a 3D-gesture recognition middleware provider that recently struck a partnership with Texas Instruments. "They have validated you can use 3D cameras to build consumer products. … This has applicability in many areas and people don’t yet understand how far it can go."

Microsoft has made it clear that its ambitions aren’t restricted to gaming. At the Streaming Media West trade show in November 2009, Marc Whitten, the general manager responsible for the Xbox Live service, said he could envision a future where Natal would recognize users by voice – and know the content they’re interested in.

"I believe that this will be the largest leap of TV experience since the remote control," he said.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seems like NATAL ignited a firestorm of interest in controller free electronic interaction.  WOW!!!

Very surprising that NATAL is already a game changer and it hasn't even launched yet.

This is what will change the world

Natal is good and I am sure over the years the Natal tech will improve, but next to this, it is still far off from becoming an Industry standard. Novelty wears of quickly. It takes less precision and effort to push a button on a remote than to wave your arms around.

However, I will hold my final judgement until Natal is released.

another free PR thread ... great

People who don;t want a game that takes too much time out of their life, but can help them be a bit active, these gamers don't want to be immersed in a game world, they want something that will work within their lives
