Tech needs to be proven yet. Social advertising failed (Jimmy Fallon using Natal, failed demo on Good Morning America, etc)

I like how you say those demonstrations failed as if you didn't just write a post about Natal which directly references them.

Because that's sort of the purpose of advertising. Bringing things to your attention and getting you to think and talk about them later. Maybe the Good Morning America spot didn't make you want Natal, but I don't see how it was a "failed demo". The game worked like it was supposed to. The episode aired. You're talking about it now and there are surely people out there who were impressed. So what's the problem?

Ah, wait a minute. I remember now. On Good Morning America, one of the hosts played for a bit and then when he stepped out and the other person stepped in, the system didn't recognize them right away. But then they took a step forward and it worked again. Is that what you meant? Is that what passes for a "failed demo" these days? It's a bit of a stretch.

makes me laugh how big 36o fans are making Natal out to be...

CES was ALL about 3D...not Natal....

Sorry that people are discussing something from Microsoft that they are interested in on a forum about Microsoft.

yes....and i am discussing something about microsoft....in a microsoft thread lol

Actually both natal and 3d got a lot of press at ces, why do you have a hard time with that.

NATAL faces problems, because MS is going to fight at a disadvantage to Nintendo in this battle, you see there is a theory in business called RPV (resources, processes and values), basically it analyzes companies on these aspects, normally companies fight along similar lines companies have similar skills and strengths, but in this case, MS and Nintendo have very different processes and values, basically this puts MS (and Sony faces similar disadvantages as well) at a disadvantage when facing Nintendo on this front.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

a 360 is interesting, natal isn't.

Maybe we should wait and see how Natal does commercially before we make any outrageous claims?

Nah.

What's with all the bashing of this product? It's definitely got some push behind it. Even if it doesn't "set the world on fire" (to some people at least), how about we give it a shot before stamping the word "flop" on it.

I, for one, would love to see this concept take off, even if it doesn't become the next Wii-like phenomenon.

It's because Sony didn't come up with it and have a rival coming out to Natal.

It's also because Nintendo has something in a similar vein that no-one else can have anything similar. Even though the wiimote wasn't the first out there.

It's the insecure rival owners hating it that would be loving it if it was on their machine.

No, since it wouldn't be the same if Nintendo was trying to implement it, the problem with incumbents trying to put out an innovation is they try and rework it until its most profitable to their already existing core customer, and the thing is, even MS admits that its going to try and use NATAL to target the core, this is the problem with NATAL

I think you quoted the wrong people. I never mentioned how they was going to implement it, or how ninty would implement it if it was theirs.

No, you said that people would love it on their console, and I was pointing out how no they wouldn't, not how it is, right now its a certain failure, MS instead of doing the smart thing and trying to disrupt the disruptor, is instead trying to bring the innovation to their core audience, which is not going to work, its a failure of the difference in the values of the two companies.

If Nintendo were to implement this, they would try and use it to appeal to nonconsumers, this is the difference.
