Metal Gear Solid - Worse - MGS4 was awful. The gameplay was good (would've been better without the Drebin points), but Kojima ruined the story. Nanomachines being the answer to everything was a complete joke. Also Otacon crying over a one night stand and Akiba & Meryl taking out the wave of Frogs were just classic Hollywood cheesiness. Portable Ops was okay; I did enjoy the comic-style cutscenes.

Final Fantasy - Worse - Dissidia was crap, and Crisis Core is one of the worst games I've played this gen. The dialogue is freaking laughable; it's gothic-poetry badness. As for the gameplay, all you have to do is press X. Hell, Zack will even run up to the enemy by himself. The encounter rates were predictable and annoying. It's annoying when you take a few steps to the side to get to the treasure, but when you go back to where you were, you get sunk into a battle. The DMW was a dumb feature. This thing enters the modulation phase every five seconds during a boss battle. You have no control over it, and it felt like the game was the one playing the game. I don't like what I'm hearing about FFXIII.

Silent Hill - Worse - Didn't like Origins. Homecoming was alright, but it wasn't as great as the first three games. Haven't played Shattered Memories yet.

Mario - Better - Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best games I've played this gen. Can't wait for the sequel.

Shin Megami Tensei - can't really say - I enjoyed Devil Survivor a lot, whole lot more than Persona 4. I didn't like what they did with the Persona remake - new artsyle, music. Really excited for Strange Journey though. Finally, the spiritual successor to Nocturne is coming.

Did you understand the story in MGS4 at all?

Yes which is why I found it awful.

for my favourite the metroid series it all depends on how metroid other m truns out, right now they are about the same in my opinion.

Tales of Symphonia was better last gen. Hopefully, that will change will change (for the Tales of franchise) with Graces and Vesperia (I am waiting for the PS3 version).

Mario Galaxy was terrific, though I think 64 was better.

Fire Emblem is better this gen.

Resident Evil is worse. RE4 was fun, but I enjoyed more the GC remake of 1. I am not interested in RE5.

House of the Dead: Overkill was a blast.

Zelda... Well, I personaly think that Twilight Princess was the first NPC out there (with RE4), so I guess I should wait till the new iteration is released. Though if it is true that it will be M+ compatible and harder it will be definitely better.

Street Fighter:
Current Gen is BETTER than Last Gen
They did a great job on SFIV...now if only they could make a Marvel vs Capcom type of game with the graphics of SFIV.

Mega Man:
Last Gen was BETTER than the Current Gen
I don't think there was any new releases of Mega Man this Gen...only old ones downloadable.

Final Fantasy:
- Undecided -
I don't have any portable console and I'm not too hyped about FFXIII. I guess only time will tell once I played FFXIII and FFXIII-Versus.

Zelda / Mario / Metroid:
I don't own a Wii or DS so I can't give an answer.

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

...nothing can come from nothing...

Better. Tingle got his own games.

Zelda: It gets worse with each generation. Even though I thought Wind Waker was just "okay", Twilight Princess is downright crap. I tried to replay it and the first 5 hours of the game are a nightmare, it takes ~3 hours just to get to the first dungeon because you have to deal with so much other stuff. The character design is horrid (excluding Midna, Ganondorf, and Zelda), the music is ho-hum, being stuck in the twilight realm sucks, and the towns are utterly meh-worthy.

Oh but it gets better! Phantom Hourglass is easily the worst of the handheld Zeldas, although technically impressive it still looks worse than Sloth's face, the controls simplify the gameplay dramatically, and the sailing is even worse than it was in Wind Waker. In fact, I often like to compare PH's sailing to the sailing levels in Sonic Rush Adventure, because you know it's a sad day when Sonic outperforms Zelda (which it does, by a mile).

Metal Gear Solid: Although MGS4 was a total fan service, and an absolute joy to play, it's really only fun to play the first time around. I can't stand replaying MGS4, because everything is answered, leaving no room for interpretation, and the very end of the game ruins the entire experience. It's still a great game, but I hate replaying it, while I still enjoy replaying MGS2 and Twin Snakes.

Metroid: Metroid Prime 3 is fantastic, and my favorite of the Prime games, but I don't know if I'd say the series has gotten better, it's mostly stayed the same. I think 3-d Metroid needs some more powerful hardware in order to really improve, because the layout is still quite linear, whereas I think an open-world 3-d Metroid would really push the series forward.

Mario: I don't like Galaxy as much as Mario 64, because Mario is less acrobatic, and the gameplay is a lot easier (however, it's still quite close to Mario 64). Galaxy is still an improvement over Sunshine though, although I loved the platforming in Sunshine, the level design was too repetitive. As for NSMB? I despise it. It is boring and incredibly easy compared to Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2, and SMB3. I constantly replay those three games, but I only needed to replay NSMB once in order to realize that it's not worth revisiting. I can't offer an opinion on NSMB Wii because I haven't played it, I do not have much interest in it after playing NSMB on the DS though.

Everyone is going to hate me for this post.

Actually I kind of agree with you, though I haven't played MGS4 yet so I wouldn't know.

Much worse.
GTA went from comical quick action to ultra serious/confused.
Prince of Persia just went downhill and simplified.
Halo just didn't do anything new in my opinion, worthy of it being next gen.
And Devil May Cry just was pretty average, again, nothing really new to the series, especially considering it being next gen.

Metroid seems to have improved, so I'm happy.
