Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MWR: the core market didnt shift

@Lord: Ah that's true and is a legitamit explanation of why MW wasn't available for Wii originally, no arguments there. But that doesn't mean money wasn't left on the table as a result of that. Just the way it is sometimes. But the question I have overall is that, if any game was treated like this on the other platforms would it be as successful as this game is and is becoming? I have my doubts. 0 Marketing, somewhat mixed reviews, and a two yr.old port at that? (Though it is the best HD-Wii port this gen has seen).

Also, I'm with metallic cube in that there seems to be very selective memories and such when it comes to talking about Wii and "M" games. They discount RE4, W@W, HotD2&3, NMH (ppl still hold onto this notion that it is a flop, strangley enough Wii flops get sequels) and now MWR. It's quite baffling to say the least.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

lol, those mediocre sales are an achievement for the wii? you srs? its freakin Modern Warfare, the game has brand recognition, yet it struggles to sell. So much for the Wii's userbase.

And still ignoring the factors that prevented the game from selling better. Typical basher talking points.

Yet at many places I find it sold out, funny how that works, can't really sell more than you've got am I right?

It's selling as a slow burner like the other CoD games on Wii and much like the CoD series during previous gens, or before the big MW push like the PS3 CoD3 not even selling a million... and you can't say CoD was pushed nearly as hard on Wii, not by miles.

ive said this elsewhere, but the sales of this game considering its diabilities lead to one massive question...

if it has sold this well, 600,000 in 8 weeks, when its 2 years late withough ads and without a big brother stealing its limelight...

how well would it have sold if it were released 2 years ago? (before all the wii core supposedely left for a HD model)

and another question...if it were released 2 years ago, and instead we got mw2 now instead of mwr...how well would that have sold?

because if mrw has sold like 600000 in 8 weeks, surely releasing it 2 years ago would have at least doubled  or tripled sales, and releasing mw2 would also surely be double this 2 year old port

This game sales are riding on the MW2 sales and huge push everything CoD related is getting from Activision's marketing efforts ( even if Reflex itself got no adds, CoD has a lot of visibility right now esp thanks to that 150 million$ marketing campaign).

The franchise wasn't nearly so big 2 years ago...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I'm still can't decide on this, the sales are definitely strong and Activision have definately cashed in exactly how they intended - by making a Call of Duty on the Wii and hoping it gets caught up in the MW2 hype.

The game could have undoubtedly been a better product, it'd help sales but I'm not sure by how much. It's still the best FPS on the Wii market, so it's not like it needed to be better to compete?

On the other hand I sort of see this as the best potential a Wii war shooter type thing could sell. No one can match Call of Duty's brand name, while it had no specific marketing it had the hype of MW2 behind it and the competition couldn't currently be more non-exsistant.

Enter Red Steel 2 to hopefully give me some more insight in this. Red Steel 2 should be the 'better quality lesser brand name' type game to do a suitable comparison too. Hopefully Ubisoft will put some money in the marketing too >_>.

"On the other hand I sort of see this as the best potential a Wii war shooter type thing could sell."

Call of Duty's brand name is on the 360 and PS3. It's not that strong on the Wii yet, because this is the first MW game on it, which is what made CoD strong on those systems.

...and Metroid Prime 3 is the latest entry in a huge Nintendo franchise.  Yet its sold 1.55M LTD -- no where near any of the 360 or PS3 CoD games, or many of the big shooters at all.

I don't think you could say that, if Metroid Prime magically went HD, and moved to the HD consoles, it wouldn't sell like hotcakes.  I think this "CoD isn't big on Wii... yet" concept is a little... off base.

Wrong. Metroid is not a huge selling franchise. Did you even bother to look up the sales of the other games?
