Yessssssss! 3D rules!
3D sure is the big thing next gen.
Here is my prediction for CES 2010
- Sony announces 3D bluray movie integration with PS3 and a new line of 3D ready LCDs.
- Samsung, LG, Panasonic...releases their own line of 3D ready LCDs and plasmas and updates for bluray players allowing them to show 3D movies.
- Nvidia announces multiple partnerships with electronics manufacturers in providing the integration using their 3D vision glasses and their new TVs
- Few games with native 3D support are announced for consoles...mostly for PS3
I want to see Nintendo going further with this.
An enhanced wiimote where you can actually touch things in the air is any gamer dream

Damn you james camern.
@Disolitude
I'm so excited to hear what all the companies are bringing to 3D at CES this year. Thanks for sharing these stories.
I'm planning on getting a 3D HDTV this year, mainly for movie watching since their aren't many games right now that support it. A big selling point is I want to be able to relive Avatar like it was in IMAX 3D only without the shimmering effect I noticed in human eyes and surfaces. The way I understand things is shutter based glasses should eliminate that.
The laser tech in the video seems even better too perhaps due to the faster refresh rate. I wish I could get an affordable big screen OLED 3D HDTV though rather than tech that uses lasers. I may need to consult you before making my purchase
And regarding article #3 it will be interesting to see if they can apply 2D to 3D decoding on the fly for movies that weren't originally encoded in 3D.

I know right! I was holding out on my new HDTV for a OLED or 3D HDTV anyway... but Avatar has made it now a must have for me this year!

Hehe, we all want to go Oled but who knows when Oled will be available to consumers, let alone if it will support 3D refresh rates.
The cool thing about that laser TV is that the estimated cost is around 10000 bucks. This is a lot, but not out of reach for some people...epsecially when considering its 100 freakin inches wide...lol.
Mitsubishi also makes a Laser TV called laservue.
Honestlly, to me it seems like Mitsubishi is on the ball with 3d technology more than any of the other TV manufacturers. They were the first to introduce 3D capable TVs, they already have a laser model on sale with great picture quality and refresh rates, and have already partnered with Nvidia to make their TV line compatible with 3D vision. I'd keep my eye on what mitsubishi does with their TVs, if I was interested in future 3D gaming/movie watching.

Funny thing is... Samsung 450 series plasma is the only plasma in the world that supports 3D in 2009. It has the Vesa 3pin plug on the back necessary to sync with the shutter glasses like Nvidia 3D vision. Its not a high end model at all. Infact, your wal mart may sell it already. |
i think i sold that on black friday.. its not a regular TV for me.
