But those TV's aren't built from the ground up with the intent of being fully 3D compatible and still use current tech picture panels. I liken that to upscaling signals to gain better resolution, it looks better but its not the real thing.

Damnit. I really do not want to have to buy another tv.

The Samsung plasma TV there is not the best example of 3D you can buy. Its resolution is low, there is visible ghosting when using 3D and it may give you a headache.

But the Mitsubishi DLPs (as well as Samsung 2008 models) are amazing and will be far better than any 3D ready LCD tvs that come out in 2010...or even 2011.

I have used a 120 hz 22 inch Viewsonic monitor for 3d and my Samsung DLP destroys it when it comes to ghosting and smoothness. LCD tvs will never have the refresh rate of DLP tvs...no matter how hard they try.

Also, DLP TVs use a clever method called checkerboard which allows them to show lag free 3D. This explains this method... http://mtbs3d.com/gallery/albums/S3DHARDWAREGUIDE/dlpchecker.jpg

While this method essentially halves the resolution of the tv...its presented to each eye so that together it fools the brain in thinking its full 1080p. Fuckin brilliant.

Hmm, I didn't know most of that, thanks! I think it'll be a while before I buy a TV again though, I bought one just three months ago!

do your research before buying anything. Sony, Samsung, Nvidia...etc...will make you think that the new tech coming out is the greatest and will charge you an arm and a leg to buy it.

But 2008-2009 3D tech may be just as good, if not better...however there was no Avatar back then to make the push when it came out.

3D, just like 1080p will be a next gen thing. Sure there might be one or two games that support it, but next gen is mainstream time.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

i actually did a fair amount of research after i came home from the theatre,...i got confused.  i'm not ready to buy today anyways as there isn't really any content to speak of but i am very excited.

I don't think it will ever be mainstrem for gaming. You just can't comprehend the amount of horsepower you need to run 3D at 1080p.

Lets put it this way... I have 4 gigs of ram, AMD quad core Phenom ii 940, Nvidia GTX275 video card. You are looking at 500 dollars of tech right there...and I can run Resident Evil 5 at 40-50 frames per second in 3D in 1080p...when the game is set to 70% detail. Put it at 100% detail and its not playable...

Unless next gen is going to be about current gen games being released in 3D, technology to make 3D games is not going to be possible unless you are willing to spend major $$$...cause games are not going stop improving in visuals in order for 3D to catch up.

Sounds expensive.
