well this year I dotn think any Wii games deserved a mention as Game Of The Year, but I have noticed a Gametrailer HD bias.

I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600 days and I think I have a pretty good grasp on what consoles are great and what franchises are great. Nintendo, SNES, and even parts of the Nintendo 64 were great consoles with awesome gaming franchises. New concepts and stories were brought to the table. PS1, PS2 did the same thing. Now that I'm in my 6th generation of gaming I greatly enjoy the 360. I actually believe the 360 quite possibly has the best game library or equal game library out of any console I've played or owned, all the way back to the Atari days. I haven't played the PS3 and I am intrigued by it and might buy one in the future. Sony and Microsoft have been playing a game of one up on each other the past couple generations and it has resulted in great new franchises and games that have pushed the evolution of gaming. I've played the Wii (my gf had one until she sold it for lack of replay value) and it has not grown up. If you believe otherwise thats fine with me but myself and almost every other non Nintendo fanboy realizes the Wii is a casual gamer's machine. Adding motion control does not make this the next evolution of gaming. The games themselves do and Nintendo has not put out games of equal quality as the HD machines. |
Let me end this right now. I'm not even going to read further than the part I bolded. Seriously, your arrogance is dripping from every which orifice of your entire body. I'm dropping out of this right away.

You know. I was going to dispute your comment about NSMB, but then I realized that it doesn't have a story. And the music isn't as good as it's been in past games. So I guess you're right. That said, NSMB has a buttload of what counts the most, being funness. |
I think NSMB is a lot of fun espacially playing with others, but it's not and was not created to be GOTY, it's appeal is how anyone can pickit up and play it. It's a very simple formula excuted beautifully, but it's not the best game this year, doesnt have to be.

Perfectly honestly now - I think the GOTY would be Uncharted 2, and I haven't even played it yet. That said, I think NSMBWii is a clear contender for GOTY and should be acknowledged as such. Sadly, most websites don't agree with me. Oh well.
The real travesty with this year's GameTrailers GOTY awards is that Punch-Out!! wasn't even nominated for Best Wii Game. For shame.

A simple as it is to respond to your post. Let me start with this. Will you ever play MW2, Uncharted 2 (blah blee freaking blah) again after MW3, Uncharted 3 come out? The answer to that is NOPE! This^^^ is why games like Punch Out, Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, Zelda ect are better games. The replay value is unlimited and will never go away. I still like to play NES game from 1985. Will you ever freaking play the original Gran Tourismo again? NOPE! once again. HD Games are in no shape or form better than games like Little King Story or NSMB Wii. Wow the game looks great! Oh, but it is the same as every other freaking game with a different story line. This is where XBOX360 and PS3 are making mistakes. They need more games like Little Big Planet to compete. Guess what they don't want to, they want to focus on graphics. I don't care how good it looks, if I can't figure out the 70 buttons to push
|
ROFL very stupid comment. I go back and still play the old GOW's, went back to play UC1 again and had some fun. I have gone back to play Resistance 1 again and have had fun. Hell this week I went back and played RE1!!!! Horrible voice acting but I still had some fun with it as well as RE2. They all have the same replay value any game does. As a matter of fact you still find LOTS of people on MW1 online, as well as RE1, Halo3, even Gears of War 1. Metroid I could play twice at most and I struggled playing it a second time although the old metroids are my favorites and disliked Prime. Old Zelda games I can't stand. The only Zelda games I could play are Ocarina of Time (best in series) and Majora's Mask, everything else points to that series being overrated. You being a DIEHARD Nintendo fan should go play The Magic of Scheherazade, it was a FAAAR superior game to any NES Zelda but went overlooked and underrated thanks to not having the title "Zelda". And that is also another ninty game I could go back and play (yes the music was very good). Xexyz was another great ninty game.
I am not blinded by the ninty magic tricks of releasing mediocre games and then all of a sudden "OH A PICTURE OF LINK ON E3 OMFG *cries". I sit down and look at NMH and Muramasa (those 2 should have sold more than they did), even the brilliant use of motion controls with RE4 (Wii got the best version hands down because of controls). RE4 is the only game that ALMOST pushed me to make the mistake of buying the Wii (mistake in my eyes but not in the eyes of 65million of course). You make baseless assumptions because you want your beloved Mario, Metroid and Zelda to get all their awards and get tributes left and right but don't recognize greatness in other systems outside a Nintendo system.
Hell I admit ME is a very good game and would deserve its awards even though it's not my cup of tea, but something I can't take away is the fact that it has some great storyline and solid gameplay (music is actually better than I expected it to be). I dislike all things Halo, but I recognize what that franchise did for console FPS's and it's a good series in its own right.
If you want to look at a fairly reliable and unbiased site, you should check the current Gamespot. They gave good praise to games like SMG and whatnot and they gave the GOTY to a game many didn't expect: Demon's Souls, and yes the game was also better than anything Wii (well not for the casuals as it would be too hard even for some regular gamers).
As for controllers? Last I checked there were quite a few buttons to press for Golden Eye on N64 and that didn't stop it from being a great game. Demon's Souls doesn't go crazy on the button mapping either. I assume you would also complain that "OMG SFIV uses ....6 buttons!!!!"

Arrogance? I'm making a comment on my opinions. Once again I will have to take another month or two break cause I've hurt some uber sensitive people's feelings. Why have a forum if you can't type an opinion?

Yes, you are absolutely right - I am currently crying my eyes out and reaching for the tissues. Now leave me alone, please! I am very hurt because you said you knew what games were great!

You have a grasp on what franchises you think are great. The games that you think are evolutionary i might find shallow, or vice versa. Why should consoles "grow up" specifically to match your growth as an individual? This is the peculiar mentality that pervades the industry, and has led to its current state, where they've left behind a large, large number of former players.
Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well I will tell you to go play The Magic of Scheherazade because it's better than original Zelda and Adventures of Link (can probably rival a Link to the past). Trust me, as a Ninty fan you owe it to yourself, it is definitely a classic man.

Perhaps because those players allow themselves to continue being blinded by Mario and Zelda and anything that has their names on it? Ninty being first has hurt it more than help it, whereas 360 and PS3 being 2nd and 3rd have been forced to create new IP's. Resistance, Gears of War, Uncharted, InFamous, Demon's Souls, VC, etc, etc, etc. I mean shit SE suffered a similar problem by milking FFVII. The good attempts that were made for Wii have sold less than stellar like NMH (met expectations but given install base should have sold way more), Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Madworld. Former players are still stuck with Mario and Zelda and that is a fact, and it is a sad one just like it's sad for Halo fans to know nothing else but Halo. Go try some of the games I mentioned in previous posts, especially the NES ones, you might like them and realize there is light at the end of the Mario/Zelda/Metroid tunnel.
