Forums - Sony Discussion - Heavy Rain Critic Reception

Watching the latest leaked vids and watching different forums and people's individuals reactions to the latest gameplay movies, i can't help but say that my expectations for the game has been lowered.

Granted, i was very skeptical about the game at first and although i am now a tad bit on the optimistic side, i can't help but say that critical reception for this game will be mixed (mixed meaning low 80s, high 70s) with a 10 on graphics, and a mere 7 for gameplay, and maybe an 8 for the "innovation" part. I would like to be proven wrong, but I think the graphics will be one major thing that will save this game from mediocrity at worst, and at best, it will carve out a niche audience for this movie-game fusion genre (which will include me).  =]

honestly what do you expect from a game that originally started as a tech demo? Personally i don't think this game is going to do well simply based on its concept, sure people are going to be amused by the "graphics" but i don't see that driving sales once people see how the game plays. I think its going to end up somewhere around 80-85

i'm definitely still open-minded about this game. I already know some people don't like the game, and it won't appeal to everyone but I'm sure plenty of reviewers will give the game a fair go.

I think it can become a fan favourite game or at least a love/hate type game. Anyway, I'm pretty excited about this game, and am craving something 'different' that this game offers. Should compliment my games collection rather well imo.

The way the game "plays" doesn't mean shit. Heavy Rain is almost an entirely cinematic experience and the main attraction is that you can change it through your actions. I think that those two features on their own will be able to push this game to a ho nuva level.

I don't expect it to score anywhere below what indigo prophecy scored which was an 85

It all depends on the story. At the end of the day, if the story is compelling enough, the game will do amazingly well. If the story is third rate, the game will flop. The crappy part is, if the story is third rate and the game flops, people will mistakenly write off the concept.

Visual novels are very popular in Japan. For some reason, people do not seem to be making the connection, but thats exactly what Heavy Rain is. Its a visual novel done in the west, with western budget and art and GFX.

I think visual novels have the capability to be very popular here as well... though whether that happens this year, or in 5 years will largely be determined by how amazing Heavy Rains story is.

Where did the game start as a tech demo ? It was a full fledged game from the start you seem to forget that Quantic Dreams have already made the same kind of game before it is called Farenheit : The Indigo Prophecy. This game was an 8.4 and the major critiscism was that the story was great but fucked up a bit towards the end, that the graphics were meh, that some "traditional" adventure elements weren't that great, that the camera was sometimes painful.

You can already tell that the story's gonna at least be on par or even better in Heavy Rain, that the game mechanics are better thought up, that  in the graphic and the interraction department alone HR blows IP out of the water.

I am really hyped for this game. If i had a chance to play any game that is coming out for 2010 this very moment and i could only pick one, this game would be it.

Serious to me its really knew and fresh. I cant wait to get my mits on it. When i first found out that the game was pure QTE i was like hell no. but when i sen the game in action i was like yh i am getting this.

I can see why people would hate it but oh well i like so i dont care what other people think. I just hope it does well so that the can be other games like this one

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

the reviews could go either way imo..

I have known all along that this game would have many haters. Most people only like games if they are constantly going 100 miles an hour with no skill required. This game will be slow, and mabye even boring at times, but that is the point. This is a game you will have to be willing to let yourself into mentally. It is not just another Avatar, Transformers, Call of Duty, or Uncharted. Heavy Rain will be a game/movie were you have to actually pay attention, learn the charicters, get connected.

I am not saying it will be prefect at what it does, but you can not go into this expecting it to feel like something else you've played. Heavy Rain is trying to expand gaming in a good way IMO. Even if it turns out crappy, at least they tried for something new. I don't need another crappy FPS, RPG, Action, or Platfromer game.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
