If anything, Secret Rings was a sign for what they should do in the future, and did. Daytime Sonic in Unleashed was mostly a straight rip of the mechanics they invented for Secret Rings (up to and including the fillable boost meter), as well as its more speed-based, straight running gameplay. The only thing missing from Secret Rings was a healthy dose of platforming in there, but if you want speed in your Sonic, that was the game to beat.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Interest decreasing...nooooo....

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

I gave up on Sonic after 3D Blast / Flickies Island.

Wonder if they're going down the Mega Man 9 route?

Secret rings was actually good in concept (minus the god awful story and voice acting that really just needs to be done away with) but terribly flawed in practice. Having to "earn" good control (such as improved side to side movement, and speed) through an RPG mechanic was a terrible terrible idea. And the control concept was also a terrible terrible idea. Moving only forward (unless you needed to go backwards in which case you walk backwards with the camera still pointed forwards), and all control relegated to motion was also terrible for a precision game. It was a nice idea done in a god awful way. When you were actually moving forward, it felt great, but those moments were few and far between.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

I'll add that requiring gamers to hold and release a button in order to jump is a bad idea in general, and terrible in a speed-based game.

No, i fully agree that the whole "earn better control," thing was idiotic, and probably turned off a lot of gamers who weren't willing to work through it to get to the good part, with the silky smooth controls. That stupid decision probably contributed to a lot of the negative reviews it got.

I'll also agree that the controls for not moving forward were bad. Backing up was definitely a chore.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Morons.

Some of the stupidity in this industry really astounds me.

Hopefully the game bombs so that Sega will wake up and realize their fanbase is on Wii, and not the other two.
